What will you use it for?

Is it your first car? Do you need it to be really practical or just fun? In either event I'd recommend a Mini at first thought, but I wouldn't rule out a nice 944.

Driving to work/ for work and Motorway Driving ! I forgot to mention I wouldn't be able to have anything above a 1.6 because the insurance is to expensive I have been quoted £3000 a year for a 1.6 Astra SXI 3 Door !!! Porsche 911 this would be my third car and it would have to be practical !!!

The Mini Cooper is a 1.6. I swear by those cars. They are fairly roomy, quick, handle like a dream. Test drive one and see what you think. You'll love it.

That's not all that bad though for a first car. Most new drivers don't want a brand new car because accident rates are much higher, and you are still getting the hang of the whole driving thing. What I did was found a higher mileage 944 that had a decent body and interior, that way if anything happened to it, I wouldn't be as mad. Just make sure you follow the routine mainenance required for the car and in most cases you should be set. Just my 2 cents.

I'd suggest a Focus Zetec 1.6i... better to drive than thr Astra, and safer... Maybe a Fiesta also...

Ok, how old are you? You may have been quoted 3 grand but you can get cheaper quotes if you shop around. We just bought a 53' Ford Focus and I'd happyily recommend one. The Astra's are nice, a 1.6 Golf is very good but a Mini is gáy. Go for a Focus...

and you can join my Focus club...

when and if I'm bored enough to make it.

Go for a Seat, if you can get one for less than £7K. Either an Altea or a Leon. But if those are too expenseive, I'd go for the Grande Punto as well.

Buy the grande punto, thats my shot. Its a great car for the money, it performs well, and just look at it. It looks great

Ye insurance is killer I have one years no claims in April + Pass Plus and it is still expensive !!!

btw I do't like Fords !! So now it is down to the :

Grande Punto
VW Golf
Seat Leon
Astra SXI
Corsa SXI
Audi A3

In that list I'd flip a coin between the A3 and the Golf. Whatever you choose you gotta post pics.

I'm a big fan of the mini cooper, you can find great deals on them and they make a great first car.

I would strongly suggest a used car (let someone else take the depreciation for you!). How about a new-model Renault Clio or Peugeot 207, or a sportier Suzuki Swift, as the new one is excellent.

Try www.allapprovedcars.com (http://www.allapprovedcars.com), or just use Auto Trader, maybe.

Good luck!

Yes, I would highly recommend the new Puntos, they're relatively cheap, look fantastic, not too much to insure, and a blast to drive, and most imporatnly, get you from A to B without any hiccups.
