You should correct your link, you have two "http://"'s in there.
This is blown grossly out of proportion and is just public relations.
Honestly, disregard anything to do with the fire service.
These are proper response vehicles for a chief.

You need something tough, rugged, and reliable. That suburban has driven through raging creek beds and managed to hold itself together pretty well.
This is just a public relations stunt to make it seem as if fuel cells are suddenly cutting edge and being used as start of the art emergency equipment.
I do like the LED lightbar though.

having been a volunteer for a while that "vehicle" would NEVER be used. everyone would call it gay and notice it is in Sacramento CALIFORNIA. that thing isnt big enough to carry gear let alone more than two people. If the chief is rolling up anywhere its because there is a big problem and big problems needs lots of people so he would be carrying those people. No room for a SCBA or a extra hose let alone all the radio equipment that is needed by a chief on scene.
This is a few fire fighter vehicles from my department, Apex Fire Department North Carolina:
Ladder 1

The Chief's Car (oh look at that LED light bar that is crazy)

Engine 1

The very handy Brush Truck haulin' the trench trailer

Ladder 3

The Fire Department should care more about getting the fire out than saving gas getting the chief on scene especially in California

Amen. Now you understand how tree hugging idiots are stealing away even our common sense in this state. This state is a horrendous joke.
If it wasnt so pretty and where my stepson and wife want to live, I'd leave in a heartbeat.

Yeah, one of the main requirements of a fire engine is to be huge and powerful, and having a ladder and a really draggy lightbar on the roof, resulting in aerodynamic qualities of a house.
I don't like it. It's downright seing past the pointism from Daimler Chrysler. Good job.

"Zero-emissions fire protection in Sacramento"
Whoop de-fcuking-doo, now just the massive amounts of carbon emissions from FIRE to deal with, with an A-class Mercedes.

CaymanNCSU, I didn't knew you were a firefighter too.
If you guess run three engines and three ladders then I'm guess your not volunteer. Nice equipment, we're getting two new Spartans this year.

Now what I want to know is, why, oh why, is it an old A-Class? Hardly the most generous of gestures.
