Still over two years away, our spies have garnered details on the next all-new Mercedes E?class, code-named W212 and due at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show. Mercedes will abandon SBC in favour of conventional brakes, although they will boast features such as wet-weather disc wiping and wheel-selective cornering brake control. Optional ceramic-composite discs could be introduced top-down, starting with the AMG models.
The next E-Class will borrow the S-Class’s wheel-arch extensions, rising character line below the door handles, massive bumpers, and greenhouse. A more sculpted wide-frame grille, more geometric nasal air intakes and the wedge-shaped profile should give W212 a sportier stance. Actually, early styling models show a certain affinity for the most recent efforts from Lexus – such as the rectangular quad headlamps, the C-pillar treatment, and the tailights. This is, of course, ironic given that the Lexus LS is famous for copying Mercedes, but Stuttgart still has plenty of time to hone the shape.
Driver assistance in general is a major theme for W212. Expect lane-departure warnings, an eye-movement monitor, traffic-sign identification, road-condition sensors, and stability control that accounts for crosswinds, camber changes, and tire wear. We’ll get the usual V6- and V8-engines, plus a normally aspirated, 500-plus-bhp 6.3-liter V8 for the E63 AMG model.

Doesn't look that great really IMO. But the current E-Class was way overdue for a facelift. But I don't really like the front lights on this one.

with all the camo on it looks very, very strange. lol. I say it looks ok, i just don't like the front - the headlights look weird and the grille looks different compared to other Mercs. Also what is wet-weather disc wiping? never heard of it before.....

the front reminds me of the lexus GS300/GS430 IMO....not very attractive looking...
and with all tat camouflage, the car looks like some sort of bentley

It looks a bit strange. I'm not used to seeing those kind of lights on a Mercedes vehicle. Although like most cars these days, they probably will grow on my eventually.

Well, there is already a facelift and it was presented in 2006, you have seend it on the roads for sure but you haven't noticed it because it looks like the old model.

For the new now: Of course you can not say much for the camo pics, but everybody has to understand that the last pic is photosoped(or photopainted) by germancarsfans, its not mercedes have nothing with it.

disgusting... these mercs look well out of proportion from the sides, the doors and windows look weird, and it doesn't compliment the rest of the car. The front lights dont look right either, the current E class looks way better (still dont like that personally). Take it back to the drawing board mercedes!!

wow... that is... bad. The back quarter looks good, those 3D, awesome looking lights are cool and all, but when you look at the front, its just wrong. The body lines swoop down way to much at the front, to it looks SSD (super SUPER deformed). So you got this thing that looks like a CLS... and the CLS is something that is ugly, but beautiful at the same time. This is just.... no... this IS UGLY! hopefully mechanicaly the car is very good.

Beh bah meh. Seems like this one will get the Daewoo tail-lights too. It also looks too modern and streamlined for my liking. It doesn't look classy anymore...

Don't like the lights on the chop. Fortunately, the real thing looks as bit better looking than the chop - as far as I can tell, anyway - so I'm sure it'll be in line with most of Mercedes' new designs - i.e. stunning.

I do think it's time we had a new E. But if those chops are anything to go by, I'm sticking with the old one. It's particularly minging, isn't it. Lights look disgusting, out of proportion.....some of these new Benzs just simply aren't up to scratch, the previous gen models were very nice.

I hope this isn't the new E-Class, it looks too toned down, boring, and generic. I hate it, and that last picture is the biggest peice of chop ever. the headlights don't even match up with the car well and you can see where they cut/pasted.

You can tell the difference between an 06 and 07 E-Class because the back light design is different.

Would it be right to call the lights sausages of death? or the whole car?

i think it means it wipes the disc brakes, but im just guessing

Yes, the back lights are different and I even like them, but noone can tell anything for the front at this time IMO, it can be changed many times until it leave the factory for a first time.

Not to mention the slightly spoiled pinched front end.

Yes, its so slight though, you can't really tell the difference, and like someone who doesn't like cars will tell either, lol.
i hate how the E-Class looks like so many other cars.
i love the look, its just not how a mercedes-benz should look.

The E-class appeals to MB's most conservative customers, so it follows they aren't taking too many chances with the styling.
(you can read that as 'boring' if you wish)

dont like it, the front looks ugly, i prefer the previous one, the rear is a CL design, and for a E class, no thanks, but S class lights looks okay, but this is just abit too booring, once they get a style, they continue on, with SLIGHTLY different stylings..but holy moly its not going to look like that probably, but the spy shots are defo. ugly

Is that last picture not an S-class?
I'm not gonna judge, but I haven't liked anything that come out of the Mercedes design studios since the SL. I saw that new facelift E-class today, I'm sorry but it really is awful. The previous one was a decent looking car but Mercedes has seem to go from reliability problems to design problems.

I can't wait to see what it looks like. The E class has always looked great from every angle. That photoshop should be illegal, because eveyone passes judgement, based on a pic that has never proven to be even slightly accurate.
