Opel has shifted into top gear with the new Corsa. Following the successful market launch of the bestseller’s fourth generation, Opel now sends the sporty top version on to the road. The OPC model is the quintessential expression of the Corsa’s dynamic character, with top-level agility and vehicle control promising pure driving fun.

Its 1.6-liter turbo engine with 141 kW/192 hp accelerates the compact three-door from zero to 100 km/h in 7.2 seconds and enables a top speed of 225 km/h. The maximum torque of 230 Nm, which can be temporarily increased to over 260 Nm via an 'overboost' function, is delivered to the front wheels by the standard six-speed transmission. This level of performance provides the newest member of the sporty OPC family with superb propulsion power in all driving situations. For instance, accelerating from 80 to 120 km/h takes just 6.7 seconds in fifth gear. The Corsa OPC requires 7.9 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers, a moderate figure in this performance class. It makes its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show in early March, shortly before its market launch.
The top-of-the-line Corsa’s look also reflects pure sportiness. The roof spoiler, as well as the powerful front and rear aprons with distinctive gill-like air intakes and outlets make the OPC a real eye-catcher. Elements such as the darkly contrasting diffuser with integrated, centrally located triangular tailpipe and specially designed exterior mirrors are just a few examples of how much attention to detail was put into further developing the Corsa’s bold, sporty character.
The Corsa OPC’s chassis has a unique, even sportier character thanks to extensive modifications. Through intensive tuning drives on the Nürburgring Nordschleife, engineers were able to achieve a sophisticated balance of agile handling and pronounced vehicle control. Key modifications include a stronger rear axle profile and adjusted torsion beam rear axle weld-in angle, new spring/dampener tuning, lowering of the chassis by 10 mm and a larger stabilizer. The standard ESP system, which can be deactivated, has also been tuned to the car’s sporty character. The new Corsa OPC comes with 17-inch alloy wheels with 215/45 R17 tires ex works, while 18-inch rims and size 225 tires are available as an option. The large 16-inch brake system with blue painted brake calipers ensures powerful deceleration: the Corsa OPC boasts internally ventilated, 308 mm front disk brakes and 264 mm disk brakes at the rear.
Sportiness also dominates the Corsa OPC’s cockpit. In addition to the typical OPC door sills, chrome-ringed instruments with red pointers and blue-ringed air vents (also available in silver), the flat-bottomed leather sports steering wheel is especially eye-catching. Also reminiscent of motor sport vehicles, the steering wheel features a blue (or optionally silver) ring at its crown, while the center console in piano lacquer finish and aluminum pedals underline the sporty, high quality ambience. Particularly striking are the newly developed Recaro sports seats with integrated head restraints. The race-car-like seats protect both the driver and front passenger with integrated side airbags - a world premiere for this type of seat.
The introduction of the Corsa expands Opel’s OPC program to five model lines. The top-of-the-line Vectra OPC with 206 kW/280 hp is available as a sedan or station wagon. The Zafira OPC - the fastest production van in the world with a top speed of 231 km/h - and the Astra OPC both have a 177 kW/240 hp, two-liter turbo engine. The Meriva OPC is powered by an engine similar to that of the Corsa OPC: with 132 kW/180 hp and a top speed of over 220 km/h, the versatile five-seater is unique in the minivan segment.
“The OPC models embody pure sportiness, infusing the brand with emotion and passion. That is why the OPC version fits brilliantly to the new Corsa, which is positioned as a young car offering plenty of fun,” says Alain Visser, Executive Director, European Opel Marketing.

its amazing how just a few years ago, I pretty much hated all cars that looks like this, and sedans werent my cup of tea either, but now theres a bunch of them I like, and this hatchback is one of them.

Ive still never been a freind of front wheel drive, but ill keep an open mind until I get some experince of my own about them.

if i had that car, first thing I would do is stroke the engine to about 1.8 liters (depending on the bore and stroke sizes as is), get a good breathable air intake, hack off the exhaust manifold and put on headers, and have some computer car junky mess with the ecu.

should get that 0-60 time down at least 1.5 seconds.

and as nice as those rims are, theres too much rim, not enough tire. id get a tire thats had at least an inch more of sidewall.

Aww, that thing is cute. It will be my dream car if it gets a right price tag. I can make out a really hilarious face profile in the seats, but apart from that, it looks awesome inside and out.

OPC = Opel Perforamnce Center

They're basically the same, apart from VXR's are red and have a bill while OPC's are blue and have a circle with something that wants to look like a chevy badge inside.

Anyways, aren't the car in these pictures just how the current concept looks like, or will the production version really look this dramatic?

I like it. Overall it does look quite "cute" although it does look ok. IMO it would look much better in red. Performance seems to be quite good, 240 is a good amount for such a small car.

4/5 overall IMO.

Bloody hell, that's even hotter than the Clio 197. The Astra was a vey cute car aswell, and this one is even better. Lovely bodykit, lovely rims aswell, looks proper aggressive, and that interior is lush aswell, I'm loving the blue around the air con vents, that's really something special.

The 1.6 192bhp engine is going to absolutely own aswell. I can tell this is a winner.

For those who were asking about the VXR here you have the pictures: http://www.motorpasion.com/2007/01/03-opel-corsa-opc-primeras-imagenes-oficiales#more

Is the same car just this one is red, is right-hand drive and has a Vauxhall badge instead of the Opel one.

That is one hell of a hot hatch. Why don't we get all these awesome hatches in America?? The interior is what you'd expect it to be for the price, but still looks nice.

^^^ i agree, we dont get all the cheap little hatches in america and its not fair. hahah but the looks of this thing are awesome!

You could just ship one across the Atlantic. It will probably end up costsing less than it does in Europe anyway.

You will probably get the Corsa in a few years badged as a Saturn, just like the Astra.

That is true but who knows, it may never happen.

ya i really like the exhaust, not just the position of it but the design of it!

Yeh, that little tail pipe required some serious balls from the designers. It took Honda three months to get the triangular exhaust pipe of the Civic okayed for the European market because it looked cool.

That would be sweet if we would. We also got the Sky, but it took long enough. I heard that saturn is going to be doing more of this type of thing, but didn't get a timeline on when and what they hope to accomplish. If anyone else heard, please post about it.

Very nice indeed. Perhaps a little 'trying too hard' but still a nice looking, hopefully good-to-drive, 'hot small hatch'.

The Ion replacement in late '07 is going to be a straight copy of the Astra, and this one is going to slot in under it to compete with the Toyota Yaris, Hyundai Sonata etc. etc. shortly afterwards...probably early '08.

looks ugly IMO..the front foglamp design is close to that of a new Honda Civic. It's probably optional. I guess the standard version will reflect the OPC Astra's design... unless they wanna facelift the entire OPC range or something crazy.

I love it. I want to try it on the track. I hope this won't disappoint me like Astra OPC which was slower than Golf GTI even with the additional 40 bhp, because of the heavy front. BUT have anyone noticed how madly big are the brakes(the front mainly) - 308mm! A few years ago only supersports cars had brakes with that size. I remembered and checked now - Ferrari 575 M - 330mm, Mclaren F1 - 332mm! Aren't Opel gone too far? Yes, new cars have to be safer and bla bla but this is too much. How do you think?

Actually there not quite the same, You see the VXR versions have there (OPC) suspension re-tuned by Lotus...

Yeah, I like it, just looks a bit too big. When I think of a Corsa, I think of little, rounded car. Now, they've made it a competitor to the old Civic, not the new one, because they're are just ugly.
