This is a rare car as far as im concerned, my cousin used to own one back in the early 90's and i always loved the look of it. Its a bit hit and miss, some may like the front some may not, but its one of those cars that got me into liking cars in the first place. When your young you have certain memories of the first time you experienced something. For example one of the first few hip hop songs i heard were bone thugs - crossroads, warren g - regulate, and I remember those times well. Same with cars, the first time I experienced any sort of real fun in a car was when my cousin had a Vauxhall Cavalier SRI, 2.0 16V producing 130bhp, he would race his friends all day long and it always use to scare the crap out of me, but I still liked it. He was the first one to show me a wheelspin and a handbrake turn. After he blew the engine on his SRI he bought a golf similar to this one, it was the only one with those headlights back then that i knew of.

He had a grey one that was low as hell with smoked lights like in the picture. Back then I thought it was a really cool looking car, but its probably rare as hell now right? Anyone seen any of these or got any more pictures?
The cars based on a MKII golf which was quite recent back then. I don't know much more about it really, the point of this thread.. i know a fair bit about the Cavalier SRI, ive got bone thugs and warren g on my computer already, just want some info on this. It's something i'd like to know about. Plus to share the experience and a great car.

Were I live, Denmark, the only types that drives Golf's are true aszholes, looser types, rednecks, and wannabee gangsters..so thats why, I hate anything that even rhymes at Golf..I know this is a very generalizing point of view..

Yes, indeed it's a bit generalizing. The Golf is just a normal hatchback. But some young people, who bought their first car their well-earned money, see their car as their territory and show off their car. A (second-hand) Golf is sold a lot as a first car.

@Sidhu88: Thanks for sharing this with us. The car seems cool, especially in such a dark colour. It looks a bit like another exterior-tuned Golf (because of the headlights), but I understand it's a Golf tuned by Oettinger.
You may try Google for some info.

I gotta agree with Simon because I live I live in Denmark too. A Golf is a car you wouldn't be caught dead in unless you're a drunk, proud, uneducated and angry bully.

Generalizing noobtasm aside, it looks better than a normal Golf. I've never heard of it before either, and I can't find anything on Google, so I think you're right about it being rare as hell!

If you guys are right, cars and their drivers vary in different countries. The Golf is here mostly a decent family car.

Have other VW models in the same kind of drivers? Or are Polo's, Foxes and Touran's driven by normal people in Denmark and is it fixed to the Golf?

No, it's mostly just Golfs. The Fox and the Polo is driven by everybody, the Turan is usually used as a family car, or vans of course.

So there must be something wrong with the Golf. I think it is because of the thing I said in my first post in this thread.

Hey, an old proverb says that exaggeration furthers understanding. A few years ago the Golf II represented seemingly every fifth car on the roads here, but not every fifth person is a tough wannabe gangster.

Otherwise nobody replies on your post. Obviously in your case it succeeded, because your post made people interested (me for example)...although it's now clear Denmark isn't such a wild-west-country as you said. ;)

Nobody knows something about the Oettinger, so let's talk further about the Golf. Do you guys like the power of the R32 or the style/heritage of the GTI more? And do you think the Golf Plus is needed, while there is already a Golf and a Touran?
IMO not, because the Golf Plus is more expensive than a Golf but it seems to have less space than a Touran.

I only heard of Oettinger as a German VW tuner. His bolt-on 16V head was alledgedly good for 140 HP on a stock 1.6 US Rabbit/Golf I with the stock Bosch K-Jet injection. If they sold complete cars; I never heard of any stateside.

-----

Since there seems to an abundance of knowledge/opinion on VW here; this is a good place to ask some questions. There are so many differences in nomenclature/type names and years of sale/production. Here's what I know/believe:

The first water-pumper VW in the US was the Dasher. This inline/North-South 4 (I-4) FWD begat the Audi Fox, Audi 4000, VW Quantum/Passat.

The first transverse/East-West (T-4) water-pumper here was the Rabbit/Golf I.

Hanging a trunk on a Wabbit/Golf made a Jetta.

A Polo was/is a small I-4 short hatch. Hanging a trunk on a Polo made a Derby. If was built in Brazil and sold in the US; it was a VW Fox.

Correct me where I'm wrong, please.

I think most of your information is correct.
The Fox was originally a Brazilian model. In Brasil, they sell different Volkswagens, partly old European models, partly other models. VW needed a cheap, small car, because the Lupo was too expensive to beat the cheap (mainly) Korean cars. They changed the front of the Fox and took it to other places then Brasil, while it's still produced in Brasil.

Some extra information about the international naming of the Jetta:
The first generation Jetta (1972-1984) and the second generation (1984-1992) were called Jetta in the whole world.
The third generation (1992-1998) was called Vento in Europe, but Jetta in other parts of the world.
The fourth generation (1998-2005) was called Bora in Europe + Latin America but Jetta in the rest of the world. The fifth generation (>2005) is again called Jetta in the whole world. All Jetta's (or Vento's, Bora's) were saloons and wagons based on the Golf. The VW Jetta is the best sold Volkswagen in North-America.

Interesting how that new Jetta is SO damn ugly, and the Rabbit is SO damn good looking. Same goes for the GLI/GTI relationship. They are the same car! How did VW manage that one?

But ok, it's your opinion, and small details can make something ugly.

IMO the Golf isn't ugly, but it's not very interesting. It has round shapes and looks not bad, but is not really a design masterwork. It's a succesion of the design of the Golf IV.
