View Full Version : I have a question...

Everyone knows how good the EVO 8 is engine wise, very quick, but only produces ~330bhp in the FQ range.
Now last sunday I went to a muscle car meet, and when I got home having taken some photo's I started to mess around on photoshop.
While the car I produced is completely fictional, (can be seen in link below), I wanted to know if the 330 bhp engine in an EVO 8 was swapped with a 440bhp V8 engine from a plymouth barracuda, and still linked up to the 6-speed gearbox, 4WD etc etc, could the extra horsepower and torque produce effective performance? I know that such muscle cars were slower to 60mph at around 6 secs, but on a lighter car and a 6-speed gear box instead of a 4-speed, I was wondering if it would work ?

obviously problems like too much torque and the chassis bending will not be counted in this, as it would be properly strengthened etc...
Thanks  :D

Well many were quicker then that, and you have to remember the horrible tires used back then didn't exactly have good traction.

Well torque and power wise it would be great, BUT remember even if the RWD to AWD could be figured out the biggest isuue is the added weight of the iron block way up front in that small car.
Just wondering about your pictures..what happened to the rear door handles?

they were photoshopped out along w/ the rear doors. :)

So you effectively made it into a coupe and kept the B-pillars?

IMO that is correct...

yeah, basically, like i said, it was just a bit of fun, so it could never work like that

well when i read a bit on the EVO 8 the reason it can go 0-60 in around 3.5 to lower time at around 400+ horse is because the way it is built. from my bro i heard from the engine to the way the exsaust is pointing. so i would think huking in s larger and heavier engine would mess up the whole thing. and inline fourVS a muscle car engine in weight i would imagine a big waight difference. would a V8 even fit in an EVO-8?
also the EVOs are not really ment for the drag but for tracks.

3.5 secs for a 400hp EVO is very good, and the whole V8 stuff fitting and that the EVO8 is made for track not dragging, I know that, but lets say that a V8 did fit, and you wanted to make it into a drag car, not a circuit car....
I am not 100% I understood you on the exhaust bit, I know that we have re-aligned Impreza exhausts for more performance, but that cuts out some of the exhaust tubing as well :? and completely replaced the silencer for a Prodrive made track car silencer, which encourages greater performance :D
Thanks all the same :) it seems the general opinion is that it would not work, which is great, thanks guys 8)

Shouldn't this be in the Tech section??
As defined
"Technical

Moderator mallon"
"Exterior & Interior Modification
The place to discuss on how to make your car look good! Also post Q&A regarding Car Audio & Security.
Moderator mallon"
I guess even the best of the posts end up in the wrong section
Sorry, I couldn't resist after our movie discussion yesterday

You could do it. But why? Why spend $20,000 dollars dropping in a 440 V8 which will sound completely odd, when you can spend 1/3 as much in modern parts? Thats my question. :?

why not?
no on a serious point, it was a question designed from a theoretical point of view. Obviously I cannot afford an EVO8, or the tuning parts or even a 440 V8  .
I agree that the costs would be too much, but it would be cool, think about it, everywhere you go, you would know that your EVO is totally different to anyone elses, sounds better/different, and looks different with the side exhausts etc. It would certainly have a big wow-factor in England where an EVO is a relatively rare sight, but one that looks and sounds like that is just defined as cool here :o
thats all I can think of

Havin' a 2 dr Evo alone would be bad ass. I always thought it was ugly 'cause it was a four door. I do not like four doors. I prefer 2 seaters, then 2 doors.

Instead of slipping in an old-school V8, why not an insane RB26DETT!
Sure, it would take a while, but I'm sure it 'could' fit!

thats missing the point! I made a Mopar EVO 8 purely for fun, and then wondered if it could be done for real, I was not taking it seriously :P

but if there are too much HP and torqe will it be sitting on the ground doing burn outs. like a 1200HP Supra?

It uses AWD, and only outputs 440bhp, just a load of torque :P
