i can't believe it, my favorite car in this world, the carrera gt, stopped selling in the US, hahhaa, not like i could ever afford one. But anyways, does anybody know if porsche is in process of making a new car in replacement of the carrera gt?

No Idea, though I hope they revive the GT1 and make it have a flat-8 twin-turbocharged Mid mounted engine<<<That would be super cool.

There is nothing definite yet that I've heard of. But I've seen a bunch of ideas/sketches, but it's so hard to tell what is legit, and what isn't on the internet. If you look it up, most likely you'll find a bunch of photoshopped Carrera GT's.

well, the porsche panamera has been lingering around rsportscars.com for a while, i wonder if thats what porsche plans on producing. It looks kind of like a lotus in the front, and still doesn't compare to the carrera gt.

That's a definite go, but I still heard rumors of a new GT1, but it won't be coming out anytime soon, as that would most likely put CGT owners in a frenzy. (Value, exclusivity, and a faster even better car right away) Just my thought on that. Not to mention they better pump out a 928 after the Panamera. or just do away with a four door and do the 928.

the panerama, is working on process, there are many spy shots of that, which are mostly the same, but its all under the body stuff...
and yea, the CGT has stopped production, but theres the mirage GT and the gambella Mirage GT for you, search on the european sections, there are threads about it...:D

Till now.. no one knows whether there will be a new Carrera GT or not.. but I think Porsche won't name it the Carrera GT.. Porsche are unique.. they'll have another name instead of using the name Carrera GT.
I'm guessing that Porsche will name the next project the Spyder GT maybe? Who knows.. and people in Porsche are doing their job.. so no worries. I'm probably crapping but I think there will be a new Porsche before 2010. The model will probably be out in 2008 and To be on sale before 2010.. that is year 2009.

They can't even if they want to. The supplier who provides Carbon Fiber Body Skin pieces for the Carrera GT and LP640 filed brankruptcy last week. But I think it would be nice to have another Carrera GT in the future!

As far as I know, there are no plans to make another supercar at Porsche....they're too caught up with the Panamera and if I'm not mistaken, a 2+2 GT.....but lets just keep our fingers crossed...

I think when they really have to reshuffle the 911 (theres only so much power you can get out of an NA flat-6) they may think about another supercar.
Thing is, if they "churned out" a supercar too often, they wouldn't be super anymore, both because years of R&D go into these cars and also because they wouldn't be rare, unusual and special

You're right.
Porsche gradually increased displacement from 1.3 liters to 2.6 and added 2 cylinders, then they kept the 6 cyllinder configuration but added water cooling (after the 996 models) and in at this stage produce their 6 cylinders with 3.8 liters of displacement.
A 3.6 liter aircooled engine proved to be able to produce over 700 HP. Both car and engien were fairly reliable. Current porsches do not use the full potential of the engine.

Porsche will be making a 2010 coupé. It will be based off of the Carrera GT, it will be called GT1... and there is a road car version scheduled for 2009!
I don't think you can call it a Carrera GT replacement though. Everybody refer to it as a "Veyron beather", but it will be a road going Le Mans car.

I've seen what the new GT1 is supposed to look like. It has crazy new rims and bodywork, and will likely have a motor with 960bhp.

i dont like Porsches really, id much rather a Jaguar XKR, Aston DB9 or the Audi R8 than a 911...Me too. The 911 is terribly dated and slightly boring, but damn it's a hell of a car. It will go 200k miles without any problems, and it's a "real" sportscar whereas most competitors are just status icons.

i dont like Porsches really, id much rather a Jaguar XKR, Aston DB9 or the Audi R8 than a 911...The AM and the Jag are much different in terms of...everything. They are all fast, although the AM and the Jag are meant to keep you very comfortable, while reaching high speeds on long, straight roads. They are meant to be classy, whereas the Porsche has a good bit of luxury, it's still more raw than the two previously mentioned vehicles. They are worlds apart, really.
Anyhoo, I don't really think that there is going to be a new CGT. There are scetches and rumors, although the only time I'm going to believe them is when someone actually tests one.

for me, i don't really like porshes that much, i dont like their engine sounnd, or their styling. like the headlights all the porsches exept of CGT, look like rotton eggs. The CGT though is a whole diffrent story. The only word i can describe it as is perfect. Styling, soulfull, sound, smooth and tough, and so on. I just can't believe the CGT fell under porsche, i mean, it isn't anything like a porsche, other then the spoiler and engineering. I'd hope porsche is gonna come out with another CGT

If it's for the race car, then the 2010 coupés will be the new Group C! These days they are restricted to around 650 hp.

There will not be a direct replacement for CGT until the new 911 is launched... Thats direct from Porsche btw.
