View Full Version : When I Drove A DB9...

well i bet you're all thinking WOW HES LYING for starters. no im not, but i admit the title is a bit decieving... :D :p

well, some friends ive met on here ive already told this story (i cant get over it, i just wanna do it again.. i really highly doubt i will ever though :(), but i drove a DB9 on the dynomometers under my dads supervision at the Jaguar factory, in Whitley, Coventry while i was on work experience there.

when my dad asked me if i wanted to drive the DB9, i was like uhh are you serious.... he said yeah and that its ok, and that the DB9 isnt needed for any tests, or that the room the DB9 was set up on the dyno's in wasnt needed, so it'd be ok for me just to drive it, as we were on our break.

as soon as i walked up the car, i was actually shaking with excitement... my gave me the go ahead to turn the key, and then told me to press the pure crystal starter button, and listen to the sudden V12 roar that the DB9 makes on start up... and oh my life, is it amazing...

then, my dad told to select 'Drive' (by pressing the D button on the dashboard). when i pressed it, the DB9 changed from neutral to first gear (displayed near the speedometer). and this is when i knew the fun starts...

next, my dad gave me the go ahead to accelerate nice and calmy, because this car is a beast, and full throttle would be too much for me, and possibly the dyno, to handle. and i literally mustve pushed the throttle down by, what, 5mm? and all i heard was the amazing V12 roar rising revs and the car jolted forward... and when i came to about 5000 revs, i tapped the paddleshift, changed into second gear, increased the throttle to about 1/4 of the way down and was now doing about 40mph, and i kept the throttle constant untill 6th gear, and wow, did i accelerate fast... every time i got near 80mph, i lightly braked and slowed down to about 10-20mph in first gear again, just so i could do it again.. its was so exhilarating, and the sound of the engine is the best ive heard until this day. the engine is so powerful, torquey and responsive... with the throttle only pushed about a quarter of the way down, i still did 0-60 in like 10 seconds... i so wish i was legally allowed to drive it n the road lol, then id have a hard c*ck all of my life... and btw, the fastest speed i recorded my self doing (not going anywhere, but its how fast i wouldve been going on the road..) was 87mph.

i also drove an XK (the new one we know today, it was in its final stages then) and the Freelander 2.5 V6. i done a test run with the XK (if anyone knows how emissions tests are done..?) because my dad is experienced at his technician/mechanic job, he didnt need the test run; hes done the same virtual course many times...

so yeah, thats my story. and also, after the tests my dad took me out on the road in the DB9 and opened up the valves. all i can summarise of the speed, luxuriousness, great looks, incredible engine sound of this car is: WOW.

thanks for reading :)

and btw, thats why from 2003 until this day, the DB9 has been my favourite car; before that it was the XJ220.

Whoa, jesus dude, you're lucky! The best work experience I was offered was a butcher's assistant, but I cancelled it because it would be too boring and totally not-me.

I'm so happy I didn't buy a lap in a Ford GT, a DB9, a Cobra or a Ferrari F430 when I had the opportunity. It would have been the sausage of death if it left me with a hard c*ck the rest of my life. Thanks for the warning. lol

And what where the dyno results?

for one, Ford uses the Whitley factory for Land Rover, Aston Martin and Jaguar testing
for two, yes you do, but my dad told me to brake very lightly (or else they can lock up and cause the tyres some bad damage, i guess...)
for three, there was no results; the dyno's are simply used as a rolling road for emissions tests...

why is everyone trying to be smart? always a few who try and be a bit of a ... u know what i mean

I wasn't trying to be an ass, is just that 90% people says to have driven a ultraexotic car, we get a little suspicious, but i do not mean any offense to you...
And as i sayed before, i was curious, about the Jaguar dealership (i didn't remember that Ford owns all those brands), and about the dyno, because i have dynoed my bike twice, and i have never touched the brakes.
That's all.

i have dynoed my car also and i didnt touched the brakes either. it slow down by itself and when running just by releasing the gas

Yea, uuummm, well today...I, a,drove a ummm spaceship on a dyno....yea you know... the big white one with the fuel and ummm astronauts, and the jets...yea those ones....

There were no results because uummmm it was just to see what it would look like if it were going to space so ummm they put me behind the wheel and I, um, pressed the gas and started shifting and all...you know the deal, 42 speed transmission....ROFLMAOISM1!

for one, do you really think i had a 3.2 megapixel camera phone back in 2003? nope... i didnt even have a camera phone then.
and for two, no photography or video recording is permitted inside the Jaguar factory... its all secret and id be able to be prosecuted if i did take photos or videos.

Frewin, how is anyone meant to take what you say seriously with your posts? I mean, come on. 'OMFG', 'hahahaha', and 'LMFAO' everytime someone thinks your a liar. Don't ever use them again because it doesn't make you cool, complete opposite infact. Have you ever thought of attempting the high road and saying, 'You don't have to believe me, it's up to you', instead of typing all that shít that makes you look like a idiot. For 16, your not mature at all and by the looks of things already, you appear to have made a few enemies (enemies may be a bit strong) and your going the wrong way about changing their minds.

More words of advice, grow up and soon. That's two pieces of advice I've given you, I'm charging you next time.

u brake in a dynamometer? lol that's new for me. i never seen a person doing so. Wouldn't that damage the roller mechanism or something?

The claim was more that a little outrageous. There used to be a thread on here with a vid of a tt vette with over 1,000hp on the dyno, and it held just fine. I can also tell , from personal experience, that it takes a LOT more torque that an Aston has to break this kind of machinery. I have most likely run more vehicles on dynos than any two or three people on here, and have to question the whole story just based on the liability issues, and insurance regulations

frewin1987

have to question the whole story just based on the liability issues, and insurance regulations

theres nothing at all that could've went wrong, unless i undone the straps holding the car in place while the car was moving or slammed on the brakes, or tried to do the top speed of 186mph... lol.

i dont know if i was allowed to do it or not under my insurance, but since no-one there are the kind of people who would tell if i wasnt allowed, and since my dad is the team leader of the department, (he holds responsibility over his area...) i done it with the DB9, XK and Freelander, unquestioned and unharmed; even my dads boss gave it the go-ahead. it was a simple dyno test, nothing serious, complicated or dangerous... anyways im going bed now, cyas all later...

I will say 3 things about this thread/story. Frewin I say this all with an open mind, I am not saying you are lying and I am not saying you are telling the truth.

1. I find it hard to beleive they would allow anyone under 18 handle a company test car. Pretty sure Aston doesn't let young ones touch 6 figure cars.

2. I haven't heard of braking on dynos.

3. I want you to prove to me and all of us you have this type of access to such known companies. Pics with a piece of paper that says your name online and the name of SCF.(only way to fully prove it)

If as you say you cannot take pics inside than take a pic outside with you in a separate Aston outside the factory.

Congrats on your experience and hopefully it is true.

Wow way to jump on me, I wasn't even accusing you of anything. You need to set your priorities straight and stop making enemies. Keep this up and you will get booted I'm afraid.

I never said your dad did not know more than me, I said I HAVEN"T HEARD OF BRAKING ON DYNO.

If you can read my post I put "if you don't have access to camera inside...", I read your story.

I am sure they have more than 1 Aston martin at the factory if they are testing. What if one breaks, or if they need to compare. A pic outside the facility would say a lot as well.

In my eyes you are officially a moron who does not listen to what people try to say. I wasn't proving a point I said some things but wasn't trying to prove you right or wrong just giving you ways to prove yourself, and I stated what I thought.

Apparently you are so sly that you think you can say that your dad defied Aston and all of its employees to let you dyno an uberexpensive car.

I am pretty sure all of your dad's "friends" would have brought their kids as wll to dyno the car.

Being a (literate) fanboy of Aston Martin myself, I feel inclined to call you a liar anyway.

Liar.

He has already proven himself to be one. First of all the insurance that I refered to is the liability coverage for the shop. A shop is not allowed to allow anyone but employees access to such machinery. Something like this would void the shops policy, and I truly doubt that any such shop, testing the type of vehicles frewin was bragging about would allow this for the humor of a teenage kid. Secondly, the dyno IS a brake. It's job is to provide resistance. The power exerted on the wheel is metered against said resistance. No breaking would be necessary, and the momentum of the drum would cause undue strain on the straps if brakes were applied at the speed he is talking about. to stop you simply stop accelerating
The story reeks of BS

Before you even start to say that I do not know what I am talking about frewin, take into consideration that I used to work in a shop with a dyno, and I regurlarly compete in dyno shootouts at motorcycle ralleys

Frewin, frewin, frewin, you do make me laugh.

A 13 year old kid, in a £106,000 car, braking on a dyno? I don't think so, mate.

Every single post in the last page except frewin's was damn true.

Oh and freewilly (as I shall now call you) I like the way you just jumped on clutch when he did nothing wrong, except give you some simple questions to answer. Nice one. People actually like clutch.

It is unnnecesary to keep the flaming on him forever.
Probably his father do work for Aston Martin,
probably he actually sat in one, once or twice.
We can't prove the other way.
But kid, i have done my homework, and ad Heretic says, the Dyno itself IT'S A BRAKE, it doesn't matter if you use it for power teesting, acceleration testing or emissions testing, THIS IS THE VERY FIRST DOCUMENTED BRAKING ON A DYNO EVENT EVER!
I am sorry, and i still not saying you are lying, but if someone tells me that Air France has a 747 that can fly in reverse, i need to see it to believe on it. Not because it's not possible, but because i haven't heard, seen or read about it. even if a look for it.

IF it is true, why can't you answer people's questions without biting their heads off? You would think that if it were true then you could be smug about things but your being defensive, which indicates that your a liar.

It's a shame because I like you. I think your funny and intelligent and you come up with the best threads. Your a truly magnificent huma being and your an inspiration to us all.

thanks, this is what you call a post i agree with... hes not saying hes disagreeing OR agreeing, just saying theres no solid proof on either side.

and btw my dad works for Jaguar, not Aston, mate, but Astons and Land Rovers are tested at Whitley, too.

i know, it cant be proved one way or another, but to the one person it counts to (me) its as proven as it could be, cause i was the one who did it...

but how many times have i said, my dad said to brake lightly to slow it down... :|. and, actually, as proven, the dyno's i were on are different dynos to the ones that test for power and torque... these are simply a rolling road, used to perform emissions tests, there are no readings or anything on the dyno itself, only for the cars exhaust emissions... and, actually, come to think of it, my dad and his team mates are the people who produce the official fuel economy/emissions figures for Jaguar, Aston Martin and Land Rover... hey id never thought of it that way before :D

and i havent 'bit' anyones head off at all? the only person ive argued with is skyline, simply because of his first post in this thread. go ahead, read it, was that called for? nope, didnt think so...

i can admit when im lying too, its really a shame im not you know :-k

My friend, we don't need to show evidence, you do. You would think that even the smallest and most deluded minds would realise that. Obviously not. No one here believes you and until you provide evidence, you will be the laughing stock here. The laughing stock laughing at me? Should I take offence? How about no. You see, if someone that I had respect for laughed at me, I would take some offence. I could insult you a lot more but I would get banned no doubt, and your not worth it.

Even if you somehow manage to FINALLY get your story straightened out and you provide evidence, your still a moron.

Oh and Frewin, you want to talk about RAM? It's Random Access Memory and what else is apart from storing data?

lol this is hilarious, freewin you have messed up, think about it, you said you were 14, which was 2 years ago as you are now 16 and you said it was 2004, now in 2004 after july 21st when you were 14 guess what, summer hols, unless i am mistaken if you were 13 during school year 04 that would make you year 9, so if work exp is done in yr 10, must have been 2005. which means you are still in school or have a very twisted story and it really was 2003

He drove a DB9 on a dyno, and you guys jump all over him?

Who cares whether he did or didn't. There is no need to start flaming him like this. Its not like he claimed he even drove it around the test course or something. He sat in the car, pressed the gas, shifted, and braked, all in a stationary spot.

There is nothing so super-exotic-unreal-omfg- he-is-a-liar-omfg about this story.

So knock it off.

This type of flaming just pisses me off. There was no educational argument. Even if namecalling and slurs were used, there was no INTELLECT behind it anywhere.

I don't particularly care "who started it". The simple fact is quite a few of you need to stop the random flaming. I've been here a while and let me tell you something. Not that his story is outrageous at all, but even if he was to lie. WHO CARES? Although his detail about the controls was quite convincing.

There are also those of you that proceed to tell other members what to do. If you are going to give advice or direction on this forum, do so with posting and backing up of forum rules. If you are not a moderator or administrator, then you have absolutely NO place attempting to tell people what to do. PERIOD.

I'm closing this thread now, but I swear to God if I see this type of blatant uneducational, unintellectual, badgering of members, I will submit a request myself to Ghalos or Rollin to have the offenders removed. Now, I appreciate a good heated battle, and am not opposed to other people rattling each others cages, but blatant badgering is senseless. Show some maturity. Especially when you argue.

Got it?
