World debut of TVR Tuscan 2 opens show in fine style
25/05/04

British specialist sports car manufacturer TVR unveiled a spectacular new model on press day today to ensure that The Sunday Times Motor Show Live opened in fine style.

The world debut of the Tuscan 2 was the first of more than 40 new cars that will be on display to the public when the doors open for Public Preview Day on Thursday 27 May.

TVR anticipate that sales will hit 500 a year for the £39,750 model, and that it will account for around 50 per cent of production at its Blackpool plant, which employs 450 people.

The TVR Tuscan Speed Six originally went in to production early in 2000 and since then TVR have built more than 2,500 of them. The changes to the car are significant, including the availability of three variants, the Targa, new Convertible and S; new evolved styling with aerodynamic package; and new suspension geometry which also features in all T350 and Tamoras.

Also scheduled to be unveiled today are the stunning new Aston Martin DB9 and DB9 Volante, the Ferrari 612 Scaglietti, and the world debut of the Porsche 911 Turbo S, which is available as both a coupe and a convertible. Noble are giving a world debut to the M14, M400 derivative and the M12 GTC variant, while certain to make a splash is the Gibbs Technologies ‘humdinga’, a four-wheel-drive utility vehicle that is the second in the company’s range of amphibious cars.

Show president Tod Evans says: ‘Manufacturers have really got behind the show this year. They recognise that the new interactive format will draw in the crowds and they have responded by putting together a great line-up of cars that will really capture the imagination of the British public.’

Poor you, and I mean it, I think I have seen pretty much every TVR, including the crazy Sagaris, and I love them, more than anything, and they all have an instantly recognisable TVR engine growl :P :P 8) They ground actually vibrates, no jokes, for real - its kinda scary :D

it's ok. I'm kind of bored with TVR's over the edge styling. I'm just no wowed anymore. I'd much rather have a porsche 911. More down to earth.

I think this TVR's design is actually "a bit more down to earth", especially compared to the Sagaris and past Tuscan...

I have some info, related to the bigger pictures I posted above :P

Whilst dealers will tell you that Tamoras aren't as poor sellers as some would believe, the lack of them on the roads is testament to the fact that TVR aren't securing enough convertible sales compared with the good old days of Chimaera production.

Say hello to the Tuscan convertible. It's based on the same chassis as the targa version, but gains two roll hoops where it loses the rear roof section. The hoops are bolted directly to the chassis and are slightly offset - apparently this is to provide increased rigidity.

The roof panel is made from carbon fibre so will be lighter than those used in the past and should make fitting that bit easier. The rear fabric section of the hood lifts up as you'd expect but there are no cantilever style struts any more. When pulled up, the hood is screwed into the roll bar using two bolts to secure it firmly.

The rear bulkhead has been moved forward a few inches and this allows the one piece roof panel to fit into the boot and to leave plenty of space for luggage behind it.

The other design changes to the range have been made with the goal of reducing drag and increasing downforce. TVR's designer Graham Browne, working under the guidance of Chairman Peter Wheeler has faired in the headlamps and fine tuned the front splitter and rear spoiler.

Under the body, the engineers have been fine tuning the suspension too. All Tuscans, T350s and Tamoras benefit from revised geometry to add more castor and camber. This has been done to match the new tyres now supplied by Dunlop. Spring rates remain the same except for the Tuscan S which has been stiffened up and runs a similar setup to the Sagaris.

The steering rack has been moved slightly on all the cars too and Tuscans will now be fitted with the electrically assisted rack used on the T350.

Inside, many of the analogue instruments have been ditched and a digital display is now the order of the day. This is coupled with a new change up light on top of the instrument binnacle. Start and stop buttons as seen on the Cerbera have also returned.

The reactions to the changes have been very positive with the Tuscan convertible being an extremely welcome addition to the range. One that should see plenty of orders being placed too.

Oh, they should, but I think PistonHeads have a system where the file names of their pictures change automatically very reguarly, so that the pictures cannot just be linked into their photo's,
But here is the link :)

Simply awesome. TVR has always been inovators, not imitators. the cars are crazy cool exlcusive exotics with hella sick engines. The ustomization aspect is insane for a production car, let alone ahigh performance exotic manufactuer. Hell, you can get ferraris in like 4 colors on average or something? TVR has so many cool aspects it makes up for anything anyone bad can say about them. The Tuscan S is simply killer.

Thats the older version, but is just astonishing, my Dad's friend has one, and I have been promised a ride one day.

It is my second fav, behind the Sagaris, I think the new Tuscan2 is a bit further down the list, but when I see it later at the show, I may change my mind :D

Nice phrase... pretty inspired. :D
Too bad that it's only true for a very few companies besides TVR. :(

Here are some pictures that will probably always stay online, I took them at the motorshow, and and have been reduced in size to 1024x768. I have a whole load of TVR pics (outside&interior) from the motorshow on www.RSportsCars.com ...

TVR's are very sweet cars... I still can't decide which one I like better though, the Tuscan or the Griffith 500... :?Tuscan has more performance and sounds better at higher revs, but the Griffith sounds fantastic idling and at low revs cruising 8) 8)
