Last year, the German Federal Traffic Ministry and the Association of German Automobile Tuners (VDAT) created the Tune It Safe! program, the goal of which is to encourage drivers to adopt safe and legal tuning practices (and presumably have them employ established German tuning firms to do so). To highlight the program, TechArt created a Porsche 911 Carrera S police car (http://stadium.weblogsinc.com/autoblog/hirezpics/cop_exotics_01.jpg) for the Essen Motor Show, where it would be displayed as the world's fastest police car.

With the Essen show coming up again next month, Tune It Safe! had to follow up the TechArt Porsche with something equally impressive, and turned to another well-known supertuner from Deutschland -- Brabus -- for the assist. The result, as you'd expect, is far from disappointing.

Sporting full police livery in the Tune It Safe! booth this year will be one of Brabus' jaw-droppingly powerful CLS V12 S Rocket (http://www.autoblog.com/2006/06/27/brabus-builds-world-s-fastest-sedan-again/) sedans. With 730 twin-turbocharged horses stampeding under its hood, the Rocket lives up to its moniker with a 225.19 mph top speed.

God forbid you should ever see one of these things materialize in your rearview with its gumballs flashing, because outrunning it is not on your list of options.

It's a bit ugly, but it'd be impossible to get away...

You can outrun it with a Koenigsegg, Mclaren F1, Bugatti Veyron, and other highly tuned cars. So this car isn't perfect. No car, police or civilian, is perfect.

That all goes down to driving skills, and i dont think theyd risk their lives to be doing 230mph+ and then get some heavy jail time!

Plus the people that drive the Bugatti's and what not, usually are really rich people that cant drive for crap.

1. its not like they would get away in the long run
2. how often do you even see these cars in the first place...its not like there are cars like this just driving around all over the place...maybe one will outrun it but thats the only one.

It is impressive and I like the idea but I just don't like the car .
Nice move though . I think those policemen should be a very very experienced drivers to control the 730bhp beast .

the fastest cars that bank robbers or anything like that ever had was probobly some tuned 'vette or something i dont know, so whats the point in this the police and government have gone crazy, the italians have a gallardo cop car, the germans techart 911 and this, poms have the murcialargo (i dont know if theyre going to put that in commision) and the japanese have tuned STI's (ive seen them), the aussies have the 320kw tornado, and i dont know what americans have but i am willing to bet that they have vettes and vipers somewhere. and all these cars are bought with your money to chase cars (which they might not even do) that are 5 times slower than them.

Whoa that looks nice. I'd hate to be in a pursuit with that. Not that i'd be in a pursuit at all btw.

damn, thats mean, as everyone said, i would not get in a chase with that, and if they tried to chase a veyron, or a rich dude, in a fast car, the guys not gonna try to run away, cos he doesnt give a ***** about the money his spending on the speeding ticket, he'll give the cop that pulls him over a $3000 tip if his in a good mood..lol

man that thing can shift. i bet it would give the lambo cop car a run for it's money.

It's gonna own the Lambo. The Lambo was never meant to chase gangsters, this one is. Is looks better than the Gallardo too, In my opinion. Those huge air intakes look cool as hell.

Working in emergency services I can tell you that having a huge light bar like that is going to create a ton of drag and slow the car down. We have two Crown Victoria's, one with a rather thin LED light bar and the other with a old fashion bulb and mirror light bar like the one shown. One goes much faster then the other one, can you guess which?

I really doubt that's the actual car, must be a mock up. No tuning agency would make that mistake unless for some reason the lights and sirens were somehow mandated to a specification.

I think the Gallardo has a huge draggy light bar too. Not to mention the Porsche 911 police cars. I didn't think it would affect the perforamnce on a road car, but it obviously will if it's supposed to serve on the Autobahns. At least it will affect the fuel economy badly.

Believe me, it affects performance.

I used to work on cop cars and ambulances every day which also meant driving up to six hours at a time on the highway. That, and I'm a firefighter and we have two Crown Victorias which I drive a lot.

Once you get close to fifty or sixty you can feel those bars on top, it gives the car the aerodynamic qualities of a refrigerator. Install one incorrectly and you'll find the car shakes and rattles at certain speeds. It costs the car a good chunk out of the top speed, and kills fuel mileage.

There is a good reason why most police departments are in the process of switching to LED bars, even when they cost up to ten times as much.

Honestly, if these cars where actually serous about performance and not just for a "show" impact they would be sporting different bars. Then again if any police department was serous about performance they wouldn't be buying a Lamborghini.

Wow. Very very very cool. Wouldn't like to see one of them looking up in my mirrors. Maybe people will stop and tink about smashing the speed limit, because a car might come and smash your brains out. I wish I could drive that. Sirens with a V8.

Nice.

perfect for the autobahn

since the most parts of the autobahn are permanently under construction and traffic jams on autobahn are more like a seasonal thing then a trend which eventually dies horribly I's day that it'd better come equipped with terribly good brakes.

So as long as you're in anything that's not a sport-type care, there's a very easy method of escape: DRIVE OFF OF THE ROAD. Dirt road, field, doesn't matter. Either that officer will say "hey, this car costs WAYYYYY too much to take off of pavement" or he'll actually try to drive it off and then realize it's so low to the ground that driving on bumpy terrain is impossible. He'll then be fired for making the car not pretty anymore. :)
that is kinda true....maybe it's jus for publicity.maybe just a hi-fi patrol car.

perfect for the autobahnThere's no speed limits on the Autobahn, which brings me to my second point: It's pretty pointless! Pointless but pretty damn cool. Even if it was gonna be on the Autobahns, those gumballs would be far too draggy for speeds above... what is it... 225 mph.

It seems as if police forces are competing as to whom has the better car.

I highly doubt that; I mean, look at how much torque it has! Twinturbo V12; my guees, it will beat the h*ll out of any supercar when it comes to the "mid"-acceleration. 1320 NM is not something worth f*cking with!

Tom Kristensen

You could probably outrun it with a Veyron anyway. It has 1250 Nm, and no gumballs to slow it down. I'm not sure about the Koenigsegg or the F1 though.
