View Full Version : A complaint against Italian design in cars

Italian cars, we all agree look almost better than anything else on the road. Well not where license plates are compulsary! You see, Italy has never made a good looking car who's design isn't ruined by a number plate. Audi have made several, as have BMW, Mercedes, and Aston Martin, but Italian cars all seem almost ugly when a license plate is in place and here as well as a number of other countries, they are compulsary and you could get arrested if your car hasn't got one. Any thoughts?

Hell, I say "nay" to front license plates no matter what vehicle is being driven. All of the vehicles in my family (well except the pickup but that has a custom plate my dad found) only have rear license plates while in the front, there are little rivets that fill up the drilled holes. I've even seen some Evos with the off-side license plate and it totally ruins the look. I say if a front license plate is required, integrate that space into the design of the car.

What I ment was, part of what makes Italian cars look good is what the plate covers. The Audi A4 for example, has been designed so that the number plate is part of what makes it look good IMO.

I like it. I love how the big grill takes up the space for the license plate on Alfa Romeos. It's always been one of my favorite details in automotive design.

Most of the Italian cars I see have it in the middle. Actually, all cars I see have it in the middle.

I couldn't imagine a 8C Competizione's front look with the license plate .
Pagani Zonda C12 S's plate is just . Located in front and makes the car looks better IMO .

Hope they just don't ruin the 8C Competizione's front look .

The snout and the two additional front grills take up all the space on 8C. The license plate will probably be located in the side like on the other Alfas. That would block the front diffuser (slightly), but is it even fucntional in the first place?

I like it too. I think it's one of the features that gives Alfas their character.

Fine then, not all Italian cars. But look at the post-face-lift version of this. That one looks good as well, in my opinion anyway.

It's not that good-looking anymore, but that's just because the car is pretty outdated. That ain't the license plate's fault!
Imagine if this time was 2002 or something. Now, then it would be hot.

It's probably one of the most significant cars of the past 15 years, and it's design was totally groundbraking in 1997. It was the car that brought Alfa back on the path. And best of all, it was the car that made it possible to own something "exotic" without buyig an unreliable piece of crap with no space.
But right now, the 1997-2003 156 is in a bad period of time. It's too old to still be as charismatic as modern cars, but it's to new to be a classic.

I'm in Nova Scotia, Canada, and you do not have to have a front plate at all. We don't have one on the truck or the car..only on the rear. IMO it looks better without a plate on the front.

Tom Kristensen

How can they catch you with speed traps then? Over here the speed trap takes a picture of the front of the car so they can see the license plate and track you down by the number.

That's just pure ignorant. That's just an opinion, not a fact. You don't like anything Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati have offered over the years? You don't think they look good or anything. Give some reasoning and maybe we will understand.

Speaking of front license plate laws and stuff, I (and all the other drivers in my family) have yet to get pulled over for not having one on my car. I've also seen other drivers not have front license plates and they still drive around everyday like normal. So I guess as long as you have a rear plate, they can still identify your car should you break some other law.

The new Civic is using it, as is the Seat Leon and a bunch of other cars that I don't remember anyway.

I personally think that the Murcielago and Gallardo look fine with plates up front. They did the right thing and don't have air intakes up the middle, but rather on the sides, unlike the Ferraris.

http://img213.imageshack.us/img213/2073/murcielagowp0800ja2.jpg (http://imageshack.us/?x=my6&myref=http://www.imageshack.us/) Those cars are wide and big, so the license plate looks small compared to the car. It looks just as a small detail, not a whole plate.

BTW: On the upper pic, the left-side color of the license plate matches well with the Gallardo.
So how about a yellow Gallardo with a Dutch or other yellow license plate...

Those dirty Italians have no idea how to build cars.

http://www.lambounfall.de/indexe.html

Lamborghinis are piles of junk. My friend had a Gallardo and was the worste car he ever owned. Had to replace the clutch twice in under 6,000 miles than sold it on Ebay and the guy who bought it already replaced it again. It was in the shop more than on the road. Lamborghinis are for wankers who like to pose around alot.

It looks good with a thin Europnaski license plate. But over in the US, the plates are much wider, I think. That would be a problem! There's no space for it anywhere.

1)The clutch in a car with 500hp and AWD is going to blow anyway unless you spend very very big bucks on a heavy duty one. The Gallardo fits your description just about right. But as for the rest, I would rather pose in a car that comfortable. Anything pre Murci is nothing but drivers cars. You need to know how to drive if you want a Lambo.

2) Don't generalize dumbass.
"No American car can handle, the 97 Mustang my friend drove had crap brakes and no suspension."

Thats exactly how you sound.
