Hello to everybody,
I have some questions. I've read in this forum the BMW 550. Is it the same as the M5? What are its specs?
I'm from spain and the top range 5-Series is the 540.
Also the same with the 650. Is it the same as the M6?
Thanks
Robbie

The M5 is much more sporty. It's dressed to kill. It's only 3 seconds slower than a Ferrari maranello on Nürburgring. So the M5 is a sports sedan while the 550 is more of a luxury sedan.

Ok, that's what I expected, but I saw a picture here saying it was the 550 and it was exactly the same as the M5. That made me be confused about the 550 and the M5.
This happened 2 days ago! A thread about a comparison between sedans.

Here's the thread i was talking about

It originally says it's a 550. But it's got the "M" at the side

its got the "M" beside it because its got those fancy M5 similar bodykits and rims, also some more similar to M5 interiors

the M series is typically faster and sportier than its numerical bretheren (obviously) it just varies how much more by how high you go. For example, the M3 is faster then the 325-8, but the M5/6 are faster than the 550i by a greater margain. See what im saying??

Well..
The MAIN diferrance is that a 550i is a V8 and not sporty and a M5 had a V10 and its Very SPorty !! happy ? :D

The M5 is a sports sedan with a 5 liter V10
The 550i is a sedan with a 5 liter V8

Robbie, the 550i you posted looks nothing like a 550i, not in trim, rims or anything. SUrely a 5.0 litre V8 has bigger and more fashionable rims like that and more aggressive trim?

Technically, its a 4.8 litre V8 sourced from the X5 4.8is and not a 5 litre V8. The 550i is the next step down from the M5, its a very fast luxury saloon but not the super saloon that the M5 is. I would also assume that it doesnt have all the fancy suspension settings etc etc.

with a 4.8 V8, it does 0-100km/h in 5.8.. i think you can still show off...

Im guessing the 140 hp difference is what seperates them.
