Late 2005, a new Lotus Elise will be marketed State side(finally!)
The U.S. is a huge Supercar consumer, heck, half of the Carrera GTs will come here. How do you think the mini-sports exotic will do?(I don't think it will change that much from the current European model)

One more car the NEEDS to be on American shores. I think and hope the STi and the EVO will lay down the ground work and start a flood of foreign cars to be made available to the US market. I think the RS Focus may be headed here too. If the fact that many Japanese cars arent available in the USA pisses us off how do you guys feel when a FORD, I say FORD, isnt available in the U.S? How does that make sense? How many of you have seen a Falcon in the States? Not me. Sometimes I think this country is back asswards.

Yeah, I've been to the Australia Ford Website and wanna cry when i see the excellent street machines they are getting over there. I'm so tempted to move.... The only performance cars that the US companies think we want are stupid 25 years old chassis Mustangs and Camaros. Oh, wait, you can't even get Camaros anymore. So it's up to one more price range to a Corvette. We want Holden and Aussie Fords! I'd love a Falcon. So bad....*biting lip*
(I'm gonna pray the RS Focus hits our shores soon as well, kicks the pants off of an SVT)

Hey jackass! If you think its funny bashing on Fords, then you're also bashing the GT40, GT-500, EVERY MUSTANG IN HISTORY, AND THE FOCUS RS  So you can go straight to hell for all I care :!:

yeah, it's not bashing anyway. a silly little saying that I've laughed at many a times despite the fact that my car is a Ford. Humor is essential

Mmmmmm! Humble pie tastes yummy! :P I just recently discovered that the Lotus will be implanted with GM's Ecotech engine for it's State side manufacturing. N/A hp will be in the ball park of 145. I'd recently "bashed" and made fun of this same engine in regard to the Ion Redline. In all seriousness I am sorry for being kinda biased against GM. for the last 30 years the workmanship was sub par to everyone else, but now I see them as bringing their standards to everyone elses. Ack, I seriously feel really bad now :P Anyway, I gotta goto work, so I end my little apology post.

PS I hope that one could 'easily' switch out the Ion Redlines engine with the new Lotus. I like the sound of 200 hp rather than a respectable 145, even in such a small car. Maybe I'm just greedy

One of the biggest reasons many cars can't make it into the US is b/c they aren't considered street legal in regards to emissions testing and the saying of CARB.

I heard the European Lotus has a Land Rover engine. I don't remember the output, but I think it was actually lower than the Ecotechs. The Ion Redline engine is supercharged, so I can see it being to large. So I can only imagine what a turbo kit would give the engine. Mmmmmm, turbo Elise.

Technically, when making fun of something, try to look mature, and not like some 12 year old who can't drive yet. Thanks.

When you say "FORDS ARE GAY" you are obviously being ignorant. Not every car company dedicates their manufacturing plants to high end racing equipment, hence why the 2002 F-150 Lariat was rated #1 Truck. You should really learn how to back your stupid comments up. By the way, what car do you drive?

Wait, hold up. Isn't lotus associated with ford. It seems weird that they are putting a GM engine in the Elise.

Speaking of weird, did you guy's here cosworth is building an engine for chevy to put in there IRL cars. What is the world coming to!

I just don't get some people :? .... Why did you even took the effort for writing that, it's so useless. Get mad about something you can really get mad about next time!

"ignorant, stupid, idiot" saleen, what's with the name calling throughout this forum, talk about a maturity issue. anyway, GTR has a point about the performance quality of Ford. however, you can't make such sweeping generalizations, Ford trucks are some of the best out there and the Mustang has done pretty well.

i dont think they are - they are owned by proton, and proton are state owned. I may be wrong, they could be buying engines from ford but it would be the first ive heard of it!

Lotus has traditionally been associated with Ford, but now it is owned by Proton.

it's a GM deal now though, The engine thats going into the Elise will be GM's Ecotec. I'm not totally knowledgable of who owns what, but I just know what the cars have... Now, if they would only put the Exige back into production. Mmmmmmm, Exige *slight drool*

Who is Proton? Interesting. And what is this Exige? Im stammered! I've never heard about this. Probably b/c I've had my head buried under the hood of my own car to often.

The Exige is sort of like the coupe version of the Elise, which is a convertible.

Raith83
Sep 23, 2003, 1:33 AM
Yeah, the Elise Exige is a street version of the Elise track race car. It's still very comfortable for two people on long trips. It's as close to a race car as you can get stock. Sweet sweet car.

eh not thats a bad way to describe it - i mean the exige and elise have the same chassis. The exige is a racing version of the elise with a roof stuck on.

the GM ecotec will only be in the models designated for the states.... and PROTON is a malaysian car company
