Volkswagen is about to release the new 4x4 model Tiguan at the upcoming Los Angeles Motor Show in December this year. Here are more photos showing a prototype of VW’s new compact SUV during hot weather testing in the Californian desert. Although still disguised, the shape and styling of the new model – previously dubbed “Marrakesh” - is clearly similar to VW’s bigger off-roader, the Touareg.
The new Tiguan sits on a platform derived from the current Golf, however with a heavy duty suspension, higher ground clearance and VW’s 4MOTION four-wheel-drive system. The dashboard includes an LCD screen controlling satellite navigation and stereo. The Tiguan is a five passenger car and set to rival the likes of Toyota’s RAV 4, Honda’s CR-V , LandRover Freelander and BMW X3. Power comes from a choice of fuel and Diesel engines, starting with a 1.4 litre TSI 150hp fuel engine, probably another 2.0 litre delivering 170 to 200hp, and two 140 and 170hp 2.0 litre Diesels.

Looks a bit quirky but I think it will sell.:)

I don't like it . I would take a Freelander over this one . Something just doesn't look right and the performance will be a bit lack...

This will sell very well. People want 4x4s that arent really 4x4s, hence the success of the RAV4, Freelander and CR-V. Not going to be a fun or in any way interesting car though, just like the rest of the VW lineup really....

Golf GTI, Golf R32 accepted

Looks nice, blatant photshops though, another car to add to VWs ever growing line up. They've got quite a few cars going now. Best is going to be the Scirocco, but this one looks quite promising anyway.

Those chops looks nothing like the real deal. It will look more similar to the Touareg, but with a more sporty expression.
I say VW have a winner in this car. The Honda and the Toyota got nothing on this cutting edge wannabe SUV. I mean, It's based on the Golf and It will get a wide range of TDI and FSI engines, a 4MATIC AWD system and a Haldex clutch that automatically transfers power between rear and front wheels. It pwns!

looks like every other new VW as of lately...a piece of crap..

how did I know it was gonna compete with the x3?

I didn't even get the picture loaded and I knew it right off the bat..just from the name.....

yes it's gonna compete with x3 and maybe the rumoured mini cayenne.and other small suv's/but these three will be more expensive than the gen small ones.

I think it looks ok, but unnecessary. I with they would put more focus on making a more sporty car. They already have the SUV, along with a couple family cars, it just doesn't really make sense to me. But I guess that's why I don't work for VW.:p
