In Sofia, one men has a Lada 2104 with 5.5 liter engine V8. This old russia car starting with Porsche 911 Carera. On a start the Porsche go on first because there is traction control, but after 500 meter the VAZ POWER car became to accselerate and the Porsche was loser!!! This is unbeliveble but it`s documentated on a www.kolovoz.com (the page is only with bulgarian language)

COOL, I was going to do that with my first car, get a LADA and stick a huge engine in it and streetrace and watch shocked people as I thrashed their cars. I will do it in a few years when I can afford it, not as my first car though!

Is a Lada the equivalent of an old VW Golf?

Is a Lada the equivalent of an old VW Golf?
not really. The Lada has been around through many years, it was either started during or before Soviet Russian reign, I cannot remember. Offhand I think lada means flower or pretty or something like that in Russian.
Typical Lada http://radio.weblogs.com/0101986/images/lada.jpg
better pic: http://meelis.klimov.ee/auto/lada.jpg
Passage from the Lada Riva Manual:
"The 2105 car is a comfortable, high speed five seater designed for running on any roads except deep rutted earth roads, at ambient temperatures from -40ºC to +45ºC. The advanced engine design and the use of high quality oils provide for sure starting at temperatures down to -25ºC.
If the car is to be operated below -25ºC it should be kept in a warm garage to ensure reliable starting of the engine.
The valve gear driven by a toothed-belt and the improved carburettor with supplementary systems made it possible to provide quiter and more economical engine running and reduced toxicity of exhaust emissions.
The dual-circuit brake system, the pressure regulator in the rear brake circuit, and the automatic adjustment of the brake shoe and pad clearances meet the safety requirements of modern cars,
The soft suspension, modern interior and low engine noise make for pleasurable motoring and restful driving."
But they also did a 4x4 (The Lada Niva)
http://totalcar.index.hu/images/gazdasag/lada/lada.jpg
or http://www.talcar.com.ba/ponuda/terenci/slike/lada.jpg for front & rear.
They now make some interesting cars for modern russia.

1. The translation of LADA from russian is something like that, but why pretty? when it is clearly ugly!
2. When the car was new and sold throught the Soviet Empire, it was very good. however, the car was made from steel, so it rusted away over time...

I meant a bit quicker, because the steel they were made from were from old soviet tanks apparently, so it had already had a hard life before being used in the cars!

why make cars with it then
It was dirt cheap to get hold of and really easy, if a tank was destroyed, or older tanks decomissioned, they would strip them down and make use them for Russia's growing car industry at the time

I'm not sure, I mean the Porsche 996 is a type of 911 (like Carrera 4 or something), the car is identical, its just a code that is used in Europe and not here in UK, I was just wondering if BMW had a similar system :?

E36 = previous generation
E46 = current generation
It's sth like MY xx.
Also:
993 = previous generation 911
996 = current generation 911
SubaruKid37
May 02, 2004, 7:01 PM
Oh I see, Subaru keep it simple - MY98 is literally the Impreza from 1998!!! So much easier!! And Lotus use the "S" system with some of their cars, and again the "MY" classification on others like the Esprit :P
Thanks Jim!

Yes, its like a code, the same car, but different names. A little bit similar the the Vauxhall (opel) Zafira, in Japan its sold as the Subaru Trajiq, same car, diferrent name (bit different because its a different company, but only differs in model name with porsche or bmw)
jimkk29
May 03, 2004, 5:31 PM
No no, it's not like a different name, it's the same in every country. For example, when someone asks you "what car do you have?" you answer "I have a Porsche 911", and then when he asks you "cool, but which generation?" then you answer "the 996".
Some ppl actually omit the "911" and say "I drove a 996 GT3 yesterday".
I hope you guys got it. :oops:

Oh oh, I got it, EVO says the next porsche 911 is coming out (997), so I could say that today I saw a Porsche 997, and that would mean I saw the next generation Porsche 911?!
A bit confusing for us British who just have "this generation" and "the generation before that one", the 996 & 997's make it a lot easier, I think we should use that system here 8)

Holla maniacs :lol: We start our summer streetracing. Last Saturday we go to Tenevo airport (this is old airport who si NEGLECT more thab 10 years). When I go there is 30-40 cars with cool tuning. There one or two cars without tuning. We start racing, I was with Ford Orion 1.6 (old but really really impresive 0-100 - 7.6 sec). There a fifteen - sixteen starts and a mother ****en cops comes (they are with Opel Astra 1.4i ECOTEC)... I`ll tell you more now I must go...
