Most insane Group 4/B rally car/homologation special . For me its gotta be the Renault Maxi 5 turbo or the Lancia 037

Lancia 037 for me, the best RW drive car, even beat the Audi Quattro S1 reguarly.

I love the engine sound as well, and its very quick, I saw one at the test hill at brooklands, it set the fastest time against a Ferrari F40!

Is this the one with both a supercharger and a turbocharger?
My all time favourite remains the Audi Quattro S1 though. What a beast.

the 037 was powered by a 2.1 litre turbocharged 4 cylinder in-line engine that in 1984 produced 325 bhp @ 8000rpm (0.9 bar boost).
There were 207 road spec models made for homologation. Both the rally car & the road version were based on the Lancia Montecarlo
http://www.abarth.itgo.com/pic/lancia037/lancia03701.jpg

I don't think that this one also had a supercharger, just the turbo. - If it did, I cant find any info on it having both!

Yeah, and all ruined by stupid spectators in the road with cars so fast they couldn't move out the way!
What is interesting is that Group B rally cars (the original 037's & Quattro's) were not allowed to rally after the ban until 2000, according to the MSA.

I think that with all the new safety regulations the Group B class could return!
At the German WRC in between re-run stages, the Group B cars rallied around and they were fast, but people were conscious of them and didn't do stupid things!

I think that was Lancia Delta S4 at Corsica not the 037 but i'm not sure of that. My favorite group B car is Peugeot 205 T16 450hp, 490Nm and 910kg, a beast!!!

SubaruKid37
Apr 13, 2004, 7:48 AM
Yes, that was it, I knew it was a Lancia though!

I also really like the 205 T16. It had 16 WRC wins mainly with Ari Vatanen & Kankkunen from 1984-6. The E2 come out one year after the first model in Corsica in 1985.

Apr 14, 2004, 6:31 AM
I just read this about the S4:

Boost could be as high as over 600bhp and Henri Toivenen lapped the portugese F1Gp track that year in a time quick enough to secure 6th on the Gp F1 grid! It and Toivenen were dominating rallying that year untill He and his co-driver were killed at the Corcica event after rolling off a cliff.

and also 0-60 in 2.9 seconds—on gravel (i think thats a bit BS, but I may be true)

It was definately supercharged and turbocharged with 480hp, with a boost range of up to 600hp!

And the 4WD drive split is 50-50, so its difficult to drive quick around a corner on Tarmac.

So what is a compound charger? :?
I found this info on a modded MR2 under the title of compound supercharging:
An intercooled turbo system is plumbed into a supercharger; the supercharger is used as an intake manifold if you will. the exaust energy created from the boost from the supercharger and the intake energy from the supercharger helps a turbo spool more quickly. no switches or anything to switch between the superchargerc or turbo. It is as if you are using a supercharger with great all-around powerband and efficiency.

I imagine that the S4 did have this system installed, since you asked 12 inch pianist!

Another interesting Group 4 car that won the 1982 Corsica WRC was the 1982 Ferrari Michelotto 308 Group 4 Rally (based on the 308GTB). I think it was the only rally that it won, but was succesful until the group 4 was banned.
I've never heard of this car, only the Ferrari 288GTOevo which never made it because of the GrpB ban.
big pic: http://www.supercars.net/servlets/PW/garagePics/marcusmv3/133car2.jpg
It is also proving to ba a very difficult car to find info and pics on. Any info or history would be great!

V8 Mid engine RWD, 920 kg, 363 bhp
Oh and only 4 were made and valued about £200,000

And here is one of the lesser known group B racers, the 1985 Citroen BX 4TC 200 / EVO
the pics are of the EVO model
http://home.planet.nl/~koper193/bx_4tcevo.jpg
http://home.planet.nl/~koper193/bx_4tcevo_rear.jpg

A couple of specs:

Engine: 2141 cc / 130.7 cu in N9TE motor
200 series used Garrett/K-Jet and produced 200HP@5250
EVO series used KKK/K-jet @18+psi, dry-sump and produced 380HP-DIN@7000
Neither used more the 2V/cylinder
Torque: 460 nm / 339.3 ft lbs @ 5500 rpm
Weight: 1280 kg / 2822 lbs
Top Speed: 280 kph / 174.0 mph

--- strange looking specs I know, but its all I can get at the moment.

also:
