How many of you agree that the design is too ridiculous. also i looked at the engine design. is it just me or is the cranker too long and do you think it would shatter under have hard acceleration???? Lets here it people!!!!!

Cadillac have been coming up woth some cool concepts like the cien.
The V16 - i think its cool as well. The bonnet really is massive, but I like that on sports cars - and it definelty seems to be more an american thing, like the viper.

From what I've read this isn't the first time Cadillac has produced 16 cylinder engines. The main area of concern in my opinion is how much this car will actually be sold for. In all likelihood it will be far too expensive for any normal person to buy and the engine would have to go in for so much maintenance that no one with the money to buy it would actually care to.

definetly - a W16 is a much more effecent way of making a 16 cylinder engine than the ordinary V16.
- itll never pass noise regulations nor emmission regulation most likely.

Old touring cars, like Diamlers, had large engines, V-12s and the like. Very common. Not only more powerful, aslo silky smooth. The more cylinders, the better the engine balance.

Cadillac needs something radical like this to reaffirm that it's one of the best auto manufactuers in the US. From what I understand, the engine will incorporate the technology(i forget its pop catch phrase name) that allows it to only run on so many cylinders until the others are needed. This will supposedly result in fairly good fuel consumption.

I'm also excticed about the XLR sports coupe and CTS-V, Cadi 's really gonna have some "zig" now

 ahhhhh i see so there using the same system honda is using on the new I V-TEC V6 where it runs on 3 cylinders when your driving around town but as soon as you floor it the other 3 activate and your back to all 6. so on that engine would it shut down 8 cylinders and run on the other 8 or does it possible shut down more??? If so now it makes me think that you cant even floor the thing with out poping the clutch or possible shatter the clutch plate when the other 8 suddenly activate and send the 1000 lbs of torque the tranys way. ouch  sounds like the engineer who created that dident think hard enough or theres something i dont know about

shutting down cyclinder when they arent needed - that isnt the V-TEC of course - V-TEC is to do with the timing the valves are opened/closed by using a variable camshaft...

Ahm, yeah, he didn't mean the SAME SAME system as Honda's. Come on guys, give him a little credit :P . I actually read a 'road test' in the Motor Trend Magazine. They were allowed to drive this functional concept car and were very impressed. I learend also that the almost 19 foot long car has a four wheel steering system. The wheels are 24" and the brake disks are 16" all around!! And I'm not sure that it does use the power on demand system I was mentioneing ealier, they do not say anythign about it in the reveiw.

16" discs! - bigger than 99% of the wheels on the road.

Actually, Cadillac HAS produced 400 of these beauties. They've already sold 330. Right now, they're just 70 customers short of the amount produced. As a matter of fact, in order to be CONSIDERED in buying one of these cars, you (before they were manufactured) had to put your name on a waiting list along with a hefty $50,000...NONREFUNDABLE! If they didn't get to your name, oh well.

So it's scary to think there's that kinda money out there.

they are not actually going to build it whihc is a smart move on GMs part, as a concept it is cool but as a car it is not

Yes indeed... very cool concept but I don't think anyone would actually buy that car.

LOL, Guys! They HAVE built this vehicle already. Cadillac already built 400....they've sold 330. So, technically, it's no longer a concept.

Look at my last post (3 up from this one).

Cadillac has built this vehicle for public purchase.

jimkk29
Oct 10, 2003, 4:43 PM
YES but it's not like they sold many...
They built 400 because no more than 400 people on the entire planet would buy it!

This is true.

But they DID build them. :D

That was my only point.

are u sure htey duilt 400? this car is not even in production, they probebly just built a couple for auto shows. Does anybody have a credible source saying they did build 400?
