I don't think they make turbo kits for the RX-8 yet. I would wait until the reliability of the Renesis is tested with many miles.

They don't make any forced induction products for the RX8, yet

Beeah :x I read all there is to read about the rx-8, and the conclusion is that the rx-8 isn't a true sports car. What can i say? too bad for that superb deisgn and for the price.

It is a true sports car, it's not lacking in anything IMO. Ok perhaps a little torque, but just that.

Isn’t the RX-8 the only sports car from Mazda :?:

There was the RX-7 (In The Fast & The Furious), the RX-5 (and I guess the RX-3 just fits the category of sports!). They have all this info on the UK RX-8 Website at http://www.mazdarx8.co.uk or to go straight to the history page http://www.mazdarx8.co.uk/evolution/default.asp
I guess the MX-6 could also be a sports car, it looks like the Subaru SVX, and I think the MX-5 is kind of a sports car due to it being relatively quick and the open roof make it fun - which is what sports cars are all about, to make you :) :!:

Yeah, the MX-5 also fits in the sportscars category IMO. :D

I found out on msprotege.com alot of drive tests. Official drive tests from some magazines or tv shows and some several tests from mazda enthusiasts. So i discoverd that the launch of the rx-8 is quite lazy 1st gear and 2nd then in 3 it kinda pulls better. The lack of torque is huge even though it has over 220 Nm some of the journalists said smth like almost no torque. Anyway in corners there's alot of body roll, suspension and springs aren't set to a level of a true sports car. The interioir is quite nice, the back seats are vey very confortable, and dynos showed that the actual hp @ the wheels is below 200  . The acceleration (besides the fact that it revs very fast) doesn't impress to much and it's very very linear not like the vtec that pumps huge power after 5000rpms. For 231 hp and for a 1.3 liter engine it swallows gas like there's no other day. many said that the s2000 is a way better race car. I for one look for a true sport car up to 30 000 maybe 35 000 euros and i don't know if my folk would let me buy a 2 seater. So now remains to choose between a civic type r (UGLY mother ****er design), rx-8 and 156 GTA. Till now i think the 156 gta is the best option.Buying a civic would save me more money for upgrades but i haven't seen any forced induction kits ofr it. What do you think? both ,about, the rx-8 and my alternatives. [/code]

I can see your points.
Between the 3 cars you mentioned, I would probably choose the RX-8 as a daily driver, but I would prefer the Type-R whenever I feel going a bit sportier. I wouldn't get the 156 GTA unless I had a big family.

I understand. Do you think there will be a more powerfull rx-8 in the near future? I would totaly make this the car of my dreams if it had a turbo (that adds a few extra horsepower and boost torque more). What's the compression ratio at this car?
jimkk29
Mar 23, 2004, 5:37 PM
The compression ratio is 10:1. I have heard/read that Mazda might produce a brutal sportscar in about 2007, named RX-9 or sth like that, with 4 rotors and turbocharged...
Now that will be a beast.
TYRONN7
Mar 23, 2004, 5:52 PM
The compresion ratio is quite good. has enough room for a turbo...anyway if they don't get at least 500-600hp from that monster they are stupid. But now it struck me! what happens to the 280 hp limit !?!? By the way what's the best body kit you have seen for the rx-8? I LIKE THE ONE @ VEILSIDE D1 vs GT and it's not so expensive...
jimkk29
Mar 23, 2004, 6:08 PM
The stock one is fine...
You could certainly squeeze more power out of that engine, but as I said earlier, I would wait before it's reliability is proven... I wouldn't want to come up with a broken engine because of excessive boost.

The 1/4 time for rx-8 is 14.5, honda s2000 14.1 and nissan 350z 13,77! wonder civic type r what time would get?!?
jimkk29
Mar 24, 2004, 8:49 AM
According to a magazine test, the Type-R gets 14.9" @ 156 km/h, but I'm confident a better time can be achieved.
TYRONN7
Mar 24, 2004, 5:03 PM
yeah heard of the 1/4 time for the 156 GTA from one source 14.9s and 1000m : 26.8s but another one http://homepage.powerup.com.au/~slunk/400m.pdf says 14.6 and 147 GTA <14.5. I think a stock 147 GTA would win over a stock RX-8 (quarter mile). What do you think?
jimkk29
Mar 25, 2004, 10:58 AM
I guess so... However the main problem with the 147 is the FWD. It is difficult to find grip when you launch, and you also have a lot of wheel spin.

heard somewhere that mazda wouldn't ever put a turbo on RX8 cause of emission problems :(

rx-8 has a rotary engine. it lacks torque. a turbo will give it a power boost but i'm sure you can get a more powerful car for around the same price and put a turbo kit on that and have a much more powerful car

If you are looking for a trubo kit for the RX-8, check out the Japanese tuners websites (HKS, Trust, Blitz) becuase I am pretty sure that someone had a turbo kit for the RX-8 at the Japanese Auto Salon..

Some tuning company in Australia produces a low-blow turbo for the RX-8, but it is still in development. I forgot the name, but there actually is one.

I have seen an article about the RX8. The turbo kit was designed by Rotor Master. It uses a Garrett T28 turbo on 6.8 psi and makes Around 30 hp More at the tyres (using the standard internal components).

That's the one. Seems a good mod to have in your RX-8 when it comes to the odd Muscle car lining up at the lights.
