I was watching" trucks" the other day, and the host was explaining how a turbo on a desiel engine works. And it struck me that i've never heard of a desiel that was supercharged. I couldn't figure out a reason why. Can someone give me some info on this?

I've never heard of a supercharged diesel, nut ALL new diesel engines are turbocharged.

mabye somthing to do with the fact that diesel has alot of low range torque and so a turbo is more suited than a supercharger since the turbo will boost where diesel with benift most.
thats just a guess

maybe, but superchargers help in all RPM ranges. All they do is suck a little horsepower.

Diesels are already heavy and don't rev high... so if a supercharger was added it would probably cause more trouble than benefit.

Detroit made supercharged diesels. Actually some were super-turbocharged. With a super that blew through the turbo and kept it spooled at all times. Interesting set up. I think it was the 6V92 series or it may have been one of the 71 series diesels but I cant recall.

Turbocharger technology was birthed by the trucking industry.........
They wanted a way to make the trucks both more powerfull, and more fuel efficient.
