The powerful M-version of BMW’s 3-series is scheduled for launch next year only. The 3-series M will be available as coupe, convertible and four door. For the first time power will come from a V8 powerplant. It is a 4.0 litre engine delivering 415 HP, transmission is a seven speed SMG gearbox. A traditional six-speed manual transmission will be offered as an option.
Four photos from this set are showing for the first time an M3 coupe prototype from all angles on a test drive in Munich featuring the large air intakes at the front end, wider fenders and four exhaust pipes. Another year later BMW will launch an M3 convertible - and a four door version.
Two more photos are showing the 3-series coupe in full showroom trim (these two photos were mildly computer generated). The 3-Series coupe will also get power from BMW’s new six cylinder Bi turbo engine delivering 300 HP. Clearly visible on the prototype: the corresponding two exhaust pipes.
Another two photos are of the upcoming new 3-series convertible with the top down, the other photo is from our files and shows the retractable steel roof as close up.

I don't think it will topple the RS4, and even if it does on the strip, I would much prefer the simplistic brutality of the Audi over the overhyped pentium on wheels that is the BMW M series.

I love the old M3...but make sure they make this M3 a nice one...

sow the new m3 will run ugenst the audi rs4, withe araoun the same power. ( I wode go fore the m3) but I wondet if the six cylinder Bi turbo will go ugenst the s4 (344 hp) and the c55 (362 hp) or if it will be a cheper car. and if it is a cheper car will bmw present a nother 3 sires to go ugenst the s4 and the c55?

Was trying to think of something to post but thats better than anything i came up with. Bad design considering the new RS4 looks so raw and sporty. The last M3 was way nicer

I'm reserving judgement on this until the production version comes out because I quite like the look of the M-Sport bodykit for the new 3-series so if it has that but slightly more extreme it will look pretty good.

From this pic it's nothing special. Maybe it will look better when they take off the camo.

this is old for me. i have seen even the video of it testing in Nurburgring. it has four exhaust on the back.

yes because the 8+ concept drawings..the M3 GTR from 2001...the 330i...and the Ford Mustang with a guy leaning on it..are all the new 07 BMW M3

That car wouldn't impress me until they paint it white, put racing flags and stripes, a huge aluminum wing, widebody and nice rims. Oh and if it has that straight-cut gearbox sound, maybe that'll interest me

I think thats a little too much. The racing stripe would just look cheesy. The wing is just too much. Maybe a lip on the trunk like someE39 M5's had. Not sure about the stripe...I would have to see it. The whit would look bad. Wide bosdy would be OK. It depends on your definition of nice rims....nothing too flashy.

If you seriously think a huge aluminum wing with racing stripe would look good on an M3 you need to visit a Japanese tuning forum and stay away from anything by BMW. Furthermore, you should never compare any car, Asian, American, or European to anything related to Need for Speed or Fast and the Furious. This is the downfall of the car enthusiast world my friends. I always have loved BMWs M line of cars, and this 1 will probably be no exception. I like the looks of this car and I want to see what it can do in a video (in person would be awesome, but that might be too much to hope for)

I agree the vehicle might not look all that great ( I actaully prefer the previous generations M3), but I try to look past the looks of the car and analyze the technical specs of the car. Plus, I believe BMW make great sports cars, and the M line of cars just backs that up.

Shame. They still haven't managed to make it look anything like a desirable sports coupé. It still looks like a turd with wheels-but uglier.
I'll stick with an RS4, ta.

So in all actuality. This car is a 415HP 4.0L V8, in a car that is notorious for having probs cornering with big power (M owners can attest to tapping the gas at an apex in one of these things(even less powerful models))

With...330 Styling, and chances are a rediculously high redline and low torque #'s...
