Has anybody got any news/specs/stories/opinions about the new GOLF V? I heard it is out already in Europe. I am in Asia and they said they would release it here this month. Waiting in anticipation. I used to own a Renault 172, but totalled it while driving (a little over the limit) on a highway..heh heh. the stoopid airbags didn';t even come on! Anyway, thinking of getting the GOlf V FSI 2.0 Engine. I don't think I can wait for the GTi next year...but I could mod the 2.0FSi.....any ideas?

The new Golf V is out in Europe. EVERY review/story/comment I've read/heard says that this car is way the best in it's class, along with the Focus. Perfect on every aspect: quality, chassis, engine, brakes, steering wheel, suspension, gearbox, and great driving behaviour and very fun to drive, to sum it all up. I would totally buy it and really avoid any french car...
Check out this review as an example: http://autozine.kyul.net/html/VW2.htm#Golf
I would buy it myself if I had the money to spare!

the up coming focus is pretty nice ,the current one is old .
by the way the new one shares the same plteform as the mazda 3 !!
the golf is one of the best in its class ( compact/family car ) not as a sports car and defenatly not the 2 liter version !

I'm still undecided on this car. I think if I wanted a car in this class I would go with a Mazda 3.

Yeah, I know the 172 was a pretty cool car to drive....but I had a ton of complaints from friends at the back! LIke riding a rollercoaster. The 182 apparently doens't do any better on the 0-60 mark, it's exactly the same. I guess the only difference is the top speed and when you hit 80+mph. love the dual exhausts on the back tho'!

Not sure Evo bob, the 182 is "exactly" (ahem) the same as the 172....10hp is not gonna make it much faster, it probably would sound better tho'. OH any ideas about suping the golf up? I heard somewhere that there isn't enough space in the front to add anything.....

I think there is, but it is a concept now, the link is on this very website [/url]http://www.rsportscars.com/eng/cars/golf_gti.asp It should be cool but no proper specs at the mo. I don't think I wanna wait a whole year before I get a car. I may consider the Golf V as it is an all round winner. for a compact non-sport, it is pretty fiesty. and comfortable at the same time.

I love the car. I've been on a short skivacation in Austria last week, and i've seen there a lot of new Golfs. It looks just great.
And there will be a new GTI

It will probably get an FSI engine with 200HP. It probably will be released this year

Currently, there is no GTI version of the 5th generation Golf. There will be one this year or the next one though. It will have a 2.0 lt FSI turbocharged engine with 200HP. I guess there will be some AWD versions too. Much later there will be the R32 version, on which I don't have any specs.

Yeah I think if I get the golf, I will mod it to look similar to the VS4. However, they say it only had 168 brake? That's like 18 bhp over the standard 150.....that;s crap. I mean put an intercooler and better exhaust and voila, 18bhp right there. How about suping it up to 200bhp like the type-R civic 2004 version. Now isn't that better?
