The other day I pulled into the locall chevy dealer with the intent of test driving one of the S/C Cobalts. Which I have always had a kind of interest in. The first thing I did was take a look under the hood where I found a 2.0 4 cyl with a roots type blower mounted on the front of the engine. After that I hoped inside noticing that the car had Very nice Reacaro front buckets. After pulling out on to the road the sales guy was there of course and I think he got kinda scared him when I gunned the little 4 banger
and up to about 110MPH And boy the little ****** was fast it really puts you back in your seat. It's a very quick car handles pretty good to. The over all quality assessment was pretty good for being a GM. It had a pretty nice pioneer stero and On Star. I highly recomend this car you should drive one yourself there great fun.

yeah sounds like an ok car, with the s/c and everything
It's a good platform for tuning...Kits are just
coming out now for this little supercharged 4 banger.
Early models have had the typical GM reliability
issues already so a wait & see attitude would seem
prudent for this WRX/SRT-4 fighter...:D

nice, but pricey to drive gas wise. whit the blower on, if you look closly, youl see the fuel gauge dropping.

I recently saw a race on the SPEED channel which a Cobalt won. I was shocked because it out performed Nissan Skyline's, Mazda RX-8's, and other high performance vehicles. It was truely amazing!

My friend just got a Cobalt SS and he said it's really good. I haven't seen it on the road yet but he told me that it's really fast! Hoping for a spin tomorrow afternoon..

My parents almost wanted to get me the SS but I can't drive a stick and it costs over $20K stock. So I'll have to settle with the LT with the $850 auto option (maybe I might get the 7-speaker Pioneer system also).

i had a rental Cobalt over the summer. it initially seemed like a good car, but after a few days the interior quality started to rub off on me. cheap plastic parts fell off and the car has like 400 miles on it. the interior "metal" looking trim seemed loose as well. the check engine light came on and stayed on pretty much the whole time we had the car.
but in all, it was a pretty fun car to drive. it was not at all fast, but it was peppy. it handled decently, and the ride was comfortable. there was also plenty of room in the back.
all in all, it's a pretty good car. i'm sure the SS is a lot better than the standard Cobalt too.

Yeah, my dad says it's fun. But I think I kinda get intimidated when hearing that because I was playing some Sega GT simulation at an arcade in Canada and I couldn't for the life of me figure out whether it's stick then clutch or clutch then stick. I looked like a dumb blonde driving a stick....
Also, my dad has also downshifted into the wrong gear once before and I don't want to do that lest I have to help my dad pay for another tranny.

I think the Cobalt SS is an amazing little car. It's very attractive. If you said it was ugly, you'd be lying through your teeth. Good engine, and since it's an Ecotec, there are probably plenty of parts of it. I liked the racing seats too.

The staged kits (I & II) for the Cobalt SS are
GM-approved hop-up kits for the tuner crowd. :D
SEMA: Chevrolet Cobalt SS Gets Extra Juice With Booster Kits
Date Posted 11-01-2005
LAS VEGAS — GM Performance Parts has announced it is introducing two new booster kits for the 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt SS coupe. The kits will be available at GM dealerships in the first quarter of 2006.
The Stage 1 kit includes higher-flow fuel injectors and ECU calibration to provide a 31-horsepower boost to the Cobalt's 205-hp engine, for a total of 236 hp and 205 pound-feet of torque. The Stage 2 kit boosts output to 241 hp and 218 lb-ft of torque w/ just a pulley swap.
"The kits are easy to install and conform to all GM engineering and validation standards for the Cobalt," said Nancy Philippart, executive director of GM Accessories.
What this means to you: The Cobalt SS is crucial to GM winning budget-performance-minded consumers, who are also the big spenders of tomorrow.

I was impressed by the looks of the new cobalt ss but I then compared the performance with it's competiton the Dodge SRT-4 and it lost pretty badly. Decent performance is my opinion.

Doesnt really interest me that much, then again I've never been a Chevy fan. I've seen these things everywhere, but never seen the interior.
The interior I imagine is one of those nasty old Camaro interiors from 92-01 ... How's the overall interior comfort??? Lot of leg room???
Driftster
Mar 27, 2006, 8:21 PM
no..not a "lot of leg room"
Average neon/cavalier leg room.....good for your average "new driver" ..but someone seeking well..comfort..i sudgest another car

Wait a year or two if you want a cobalt, they need some improvment before they can be practical.

The interior is hella better than the Solstice in terms of size. I went to the GM Auto Show that happened in October and I sat in the Cobalt SS. It felt very nice. I dunno if someone had sat in it and had the seat back but when I went in, my legs stretched out a little bit to get to the pedals. My brother can just fit his 6'6" frame into a Cobalt with putting the seat back all the way and bending it back a little.

The interior is alot nicer then my old 03 Sentra SE-R B15. The fit and finish is along way from the cheap Cavalier.
