Honestly, I think the R-Class is really cool. If I had a family and needed an upscale SUV, I would pick up an R 500. The doors are HUGE.. and you don't really expect it to be as nice as it is. If you ever get the chance to sit in one, I recommend it. It will definitely grow on you.

i am opposed to the R-Class, i wish that mercedes had never made it. it is kind of a Wagon/SUV/Minivan car. It will probably be the next Hummer H2 that all the soccer moms will drive.

Doesn't really grab my attention. It looks very agressive for an MB but they're are toning up.
By the way, there's this section in this forum we call 'European Cars'.

I agree. Everyone is so quick to say it's ugly and that Mercedes made a monster. But I think it's a cool looking car-thing. It's very practical.

No it isn't. They use completely different platforms and the R-Class is a great deal larger.
Anyway, no, I don't like this car. Why? It's an alternative to an SUV, yet it's got no advantages and has all the disadvantages of an SUV. It's absolute poppy-c*ck. If MB wants to make an MPV (which it is, despite what MB calls it), at least have the plus' associated with MPV's.

I'm starting to like it, but I like this more or at least I would be more interested on having this one instead of an R-Class: http://www.tuningnews.net/news/041018/brabus-viano-v8.php

Yeah, because the R-Class' interior is amazing.. probably one of my favorite Mercedes next to the S/SL class.

Ahem...err...Only old ones, except the CL. In my opinion they've gone appallingly swoopy and overstyled, and they haven't got the rock solid build quality you'd expect from their image (a friend of mine's ML has broken down 9 times, on another one's S-Class (an '04 model) I went in and the wood on the door panel fell off, another friend's C-Class has had various problems with the ESP, and another friend has a CLK from 2002 whose electrics have been completely eaten away by damp, and whose battery has leaked all over the interior underneath the front seats). The CL, as I have said above, is, in my opinion, the last bastion of the 'real' Mercs.
And, although 'Attaus' claims the interior is fabulous-I personally can see nothing fabulous about it, unless you are a plastic obsessive (if you want a fabulous interior in the R-Class 'segment (although it is arguable whether or not it actually has one), the the Audi Q7 should satisfy better, or a Range (although that only has 5 seats). These may not seem direct rivals, but I can't think of anything closer than a big 4x4 to an Estate/MPV with 4 wheel drive-I am merely trying to make the point that it is a long way off the best interior in its class.)

Only old ones, exept the CLMerc quality has returned with the CLS and the new S and the M-Class has been omproved. Acording to a road test I saw recentley (I forgot where) the CL is one of the worst ones.

Well, I must say that's at odds with what I've heard. Certainly the CLS is a step forward, but the ML, having had a good look inside one, seems to be better than the old one, but still not on a par with a Q7 or Range. The new S-Class may be better-only time will tell (although that doesn't excuse its astonishingly vulgar design or over pricing-for £55-60k I can have a 4.2 litre V8 Jaguar XJ, a 4.2 litre V8 Audi A8, a 5.0 litre BMW 7-series or...a 3.2 litre diesel S-Class. But that's by the by.).
With regards to your comments on the CL, I would not be so arrogant as to dismiss the review which you have read, but I would say that all reviews of the CL I have heard are positively glowing with regards to build quality. I quote from www.topgear.com (http://www.topgear.com) , where the 'luxurious fittings' are legend among the reviewers (on a much unhappier note, their review has also revealed to me that the CL500 and CLS500 do NOT COME WITH LEATHER UPHOLSTERY, which is of course quite understandable in cars that cost over £50k).
But the point I am really trying to make is that although new Mercedes might not be badly built, Mercedes-Benz motor cars used to have the enviable reputation of being the best built cars in the world, and now Audi, Jaguar, and Lexus are all outstripping them.

Its not stand out ugly but its the kind of ugly that gets worse every time you see it ugly.
It looks really bad IMO in 2 tone with red and silver grey.
But it dose have heaps of room even in the last row of seats.
I recon there is as much back row legroom in the kia as th 300C's normal rear leg room.

Yes indeed. However, if you want to prove the point that the R-Class is not the worst, just show a picture of the Ssangyong Rodius and I'll retreat, cowering in defeat, behind my chair.

I think the R class looks uglier than 99% of minivans..
you know why?
Because you can't look at a Rclass picture
without looking at the 50,000-60,000 dollar price tag..
depending on if you get the ugly SLOW version..
or the ugly FAST version
