Could this be true? and if it's true that the S80 is really the S60 replacement, does that mean there will be a S80 R in order to have a sport saloon on the E55, M5 and S6 range?

NOoooooooooooooooooooooooooo! That's one of my fav. cars... Wait, what engine does the S80 have? All I know is that the S60R has a turbocharged inline-5.....

The S80 has the 2.5 turbo inline-5 (200 bhp), an all new 3.2 inline-6 (235 hp) and the 4.4 V8 (315 bhp) from the XC90.

that doesn't really make sense cos volvo already make an S80 as a rival to the 5 series etc and the S60 is a 3 series size car so replacing the S60 with the S80 wouldn't make sense

meh, it's always just been a mediocre semiluxo midsized sedan. i wouldn't really care if they stopped making it.

What are you talking about? S60 T6's were freaking beasts. I saw a video of a S60 with a chip beat an E46 M3 in a race. Not bad if you ask me..

It must have had more than jsut a chip. I've driven MANY S60's, and they really aren't that fast. the AWD version gets off the line quick, but the FWD on volvos is borderline pathetic.

With that V8 on the S80 now Volvo has a better chance to build a high performance sedan, maybe not at the same level of an M5, but more competitive than the previous S60 R. Anyways we don't have any news about a "sport" version of the S80 for now...

Even though I wouldn't mind the demise of the S60, canning the car would leave a major gap in Volvo's lineup.

I dont think S80 is a replacment for S60, or i just hope it isnt. S60 is a good car and engines were great to. 2.4 lpt is turbo engine with no lag(1750-5500 rpm -> 100% torque) and 200 HP. nice!!

I think it is true that the S60 is being replaced by the S80. I have read this in lots of places. I don't really see why it is such a big deal. and surely the S40 is the rival for the 3-series etc...

No it isn't. The S80 is significantly bigger than the S60, hence why the lineup since the late-90's consisted of the S40, S60 and S80.
