I read recentley in a magazine that the next Maserati Coupe will have a folding metal hardtop. What do you lot think?

We'll have to w8 and c :)

i doubt the coupe will, the convertible however needs a proper convertible top, less weight and it takes up less boot space when down.

SLR Mclaren

They may make them the same car.

SLR, please, post some info to it, otherwise this is just pointless, and if you don't, I'm going to have to close it.

The coupe will be a coupe (2+2)
The converible will have a folding hardtop and only 2 seats to accomodate the folding roof.

I also heard there will be a high peformance version with a detuned version of the F430 engine but i think thats unlikely.

Highly probable that it will be based on a shortened QP platform
http://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/l.gif

Other source say based on an alfa 166 platform although i dont know whether that is the same as the QP platform.

Anyway, in answer to your question, i think its pretty certain there will be a Coupe and a seperate folding hardtop model.

Well I think if it looks anything like any Maserati as of the past....10 years, it's going to look disgusting cost to much and perform terribly.

i saw a maserati today..they are ugly

foresterfan
Mar 07, 2006, 2:13 PM
I like the QP but not the coupe.

Drifster's hatred of "Maserottys" makes me wonder whether his whole family were run over by one when he was a small baby.

Driftster

Nope.

I love Maseratti's.......

When they looked like this
http://www.atspeedimages.com/pebble99/maserati/1954_maserati_a6gcs_pinin_farina_coupe.j pg

Now Maserati's look like bulbous ugly Jaguar-wannabe's with a Trident in tha fascia and "skyhook" at the wheels....

not to mention they havn't had a nice set of head/tail lights in yeaaarrss....

Their best car as of the past...20 years, wasn't even THEIR car....it was an Enzo..that they massacre'd to look like horse manuer.

MC12 has more design crapflaws than a Supra..
it's a Catfish among cars, with an ugly front fascia a lame two tone scheme...No rear window..and the most hideous required spoiler...

The styling is ugly in your opinion. It doesnt mean it's a bad car overall. What kind of design flaws does it have? At least post what's physically wrong with it.

yeah, the Enzo really sucks dude. i mean, it's only one of the fastest cars today.

i dunno, i generally like Maseratis (hence the name) but the are nothing special. they are nice, very comfy, they have mediocre to good performance, and i think they look really good. well, classy is a better word.

the only thing i truely love about the newer Maseratis is the sound that V8 makes.

At least post what's physically wrong with it.other than the 2 tone the duct work the lack of a window in place of a fou engine cooler(in which ferrari still did but used CLEAR istead of painted metal)....the lame spoiler, and the fact it's not an original car..

You mean BESIDES that right?

Seeing as the current V8 engine found in the Coupe and Quattroporte IS a detuned F430 engine, I wouldn't doubt it.

The Gransport is really the same as those two except that it has a tuned version of the same engine.

No..We're saying Maserati can't make a good car on it's own...

Any car that is just a blatent steal from another car = suckage

vmax
Mar 09, 2006, 2:09 PM
and that the maseratis engine is a detuned enzo engine so if you want performance you're better off going with the enzo

Driftster
Mar 09, 2006, 2:16 PM
Actually it's not really "detuned" they just say that..it still makes roughly the same #'s...If not very very slightly less...

MC12 = much more race oriented than the Enzo..(which says alot when talked about the Enzo)..so it shows its' practicality...And Maserati's attempt at looking "serious"...Even though it's really a joke

vmax
Mar 09, 2006, 2:29 PM
the maserati produce 30hp less than the enzo, 660 vs 630, so yeh not much difference

Mar 09, 2006, 5:59 PM
The MC12 and the Birdcage Concept are pretty vulgar as far as I am concerned. And that Maserati you posted Drifster is beautiful. What is it?

Ferrari and Maserati are partners. Ferrari made it for Maserati. :smt021

Driftster
Mar 09, 2006, 7:07 PM
No Ferrari didn't make it for Maserati...Maserati paid $$$$$$ for the rights to use the enzo's platform and engine..

and they themselves....widened the car...and changed the body work..

In other words..
If Toyota..paid honda..8 million dollars and got to use the Civic platform..

put celica headlights on it....tuned down the 4cyl to 180HP instead of 200....and made the front/rear track an inch wider...and sold it as their own car

Ferrari And Maserati are Partners they are both owned by Fiat along with Alfa Romeo and Lancia so its ok for them to use it without having to pay as much as say lambo would.

Mar 11, 2006, 8:23 AM
ferrari isnt owned by fiat. ferrari is ferrari. ferrari used to own maserati, until recently when they sold it to the french

Ferrari is owned by the Fiat group, and Ferrari "sold" Maserati to Alfa Romeo which also is part of the Fiat group...

i can clearly see why you dont like Maserati. They should come up with an ORIGINAL idea instead of taking someone elses car.
