Which one do you really prefer? Please explain why! Don't take the prices into consideration. Let me clarify that I'm talking about the OLD Audi S3.
Let me give you some info:

Honda Civic Type-R
2000cc normally aspirated
200PS @ 7400 rpm
20 kgm @ 5900 rpm
0-100 km/n: 6.8 sec
235 km/h
FWD

Audi S3 (old)
1800cc twin turbo
225PS @ 5900 rpm
28,5 kgm @ 2200 rpm
0-100 km/h: 6,6 sec
243 km/h
4WD (quattro)

Well what do you think? :D
I will not state my opinion yet...

I think that it is crazy that anybody would choose a honda civic over an audi with 4wd. it has more hp and is a better made car all together. And, on the plus side, it is made by volkswagen

I choose audi, but not because of the brand, it's an overall better car for the guy who likes driving, Honda is more for kids putting on flames on the sides and big sideskirts, anyway, Honda is great value for the price

I would still have to say that the S3 would be more fun because even though the civic type-R might make you want to drive it extreme, it doesnt have the right prerequisites to do so. In my book, the most xtreme way to drive is to race in a rally, so i would go with the 4WD.

yeah I would say that the S3 would be more fun to drive than the FWD civic.
At least with 4WD you have more grip to get it to higher speed on corners. - FWD will just understeer. 4WD does as well but not to the same extent.

Yeah, me too! The TT also has only 2 seats, so you can't go with your friends for a ride like with the S3.

Hi,

Audi has proved that the 1.8 20VT is a very good engine and that they make one of the best 4wd-systems (quattro) on the market!!

So i'll take the S3....

But there is one little mistake here... It has only one Turbo, It's no twin turbo!!
The other specifications are ok.

Hi,

Maybe this car will not be sold all arouns the world but i would like to notice that the S3 has al little brother that drives quite as good with FWD!!!

I'm talking about the Seat Leon Cupra R I'ts got the same engine the same technology, made by volkswagen about 250 kg lighter!!

And it Drives as well!!! It's a good mix between the civic and the s3!!!

Yeap I've driven them both. A friend of mine has an S3 which is tuned by MTM. I've driven it once, it's ok i quess. I wasn't thrilled.
A cousin of mine has the Type-R. This, I've driven it a couple of times. Whenever I have asked her, she has given it to me. Hehehe in fact one time, when I had just bought my GTV, we made a 0-400. And i lost :P . That was the first time i drove the type-r. After my defeat. :P

NO, it's twin turbo (two smaller turbos instead of a larger one), I'm pretty sure about this, you might wanna check it out. :)

 E30 M3 Evo: The Leon is a good car, I know, but trust me, it can't be compared to these two (they are way better), so I didn't include it in the poll. 8)

The Cupra R is almost like the S3. They have many many common parts, with the most important being the engine which has xactly the same hp(225), with the S3. If it also had 4wd, then they would be almost the same car.

The Leon has 210PS @ 5800 rpm... Nice car but not as good as those two in the poll. I'd still take the audi because it has better performance, has quattro and is an Audi!

you all speak utter crap, there's all this "i think it's best" or "i would say that ones best". when you have actually driven them, then you can give an honest answer.

and yes before you go saying "have you driven them both" yes i have i also tested the ford RS and i still went for the CTR, why ?

it's about 300 kgs lighter than the audi, handles more like a sports car. is quicker than what the book says it is and there for quicker than the audi.

Well the type R is the car of my dreams
i like the S3 a lot but the Type R is so much a racing car.. the seats, the brakes, that technology on the machine... is awsome...

I have a french magazine.. and they compare the Type R vs Audi S3 vs SEAT cupra R
the S3 is the most powerful car, but...

The first place was for the civic, becouse they test the cars in a racing circuit, and they realize that the handlig of the civic was so much better, also the response of the machine... (and is not a turbo)

So the Civic was faster in the circuit, where the power is not all, and also in the final speed was better (top speed).

OK, I need to state my own opinion now... Let me clarify that I LOVE both cars... They are some kind of dream cars for me. After lots of thought, I would say that I prefer the S3, but only with a slight difference. I'm a big fan of Audi, and I know the company makes good cars. I know that the Type-R is faster in a track, and I know it is sportier and with better handling.
However, the S3 has Quattro, which is quite important for me, and it's also more luxurious and classier, which is also a bit important for me. What I'm saying is that I would sacrifice the sportiness of the Type-R to get the luxury and the status and the class of the S3... Anyway, that's my opinion.

The Honda civic type R has always thrilled me in an undescribable way, maybe it is the big red R or the world renowned i-VTEC engine. On holiday i had a shot of the car and it was breathtaking the gear changes are short and smooth and the noise is straight from f1, the audi s3 old version may have better straight line attributes but round a track or getting from A to B the type R wins hands down as the s3 (old) is not as properly race tuned.

Does the Civic Type-R use the same basic rear suspension layout than the Civic Si, if so, the rear suspension is crap, but hearing such compliments to the car i guess they dont share suspnsion parts

jimkk29
Aug 04, 2003, 6:35 AM
Well I don't think they share the same suspension. The Type-R is known for it's utmost performance.
