Now thats no way to talk :x in some countries alloy wheels are a luxurious good so dont make fun of questions like that. Marinko it is a fact that alloy wheels make the bcar better looking ( unless the wheels are UgLy :) ) but if they arent very light there will be no visible changes in the cars performance , if u are buying i would like to hear what brand u are planing to buy since i see that u are from Bosnia which is near Slovenia i think u have pretty much the same stuff ( oz, bbs, tsw, alessio, rial, borbet and so on) please reply
P.S.: Kako stoje stvari dole u bosni ? I ne slusaj ove amerikance ili stagod jesu koji nesto p...... tebe ti samo pisi sta te zanima.

well all brands are very similiar but there are some difference between them. For example Borbet have great protective finish and very high precision, but some models are not for our roads (they are very weak), BBS is great and very light but I don't like their models. OZ is good but price :). TSW is much cheaper but you can't by it here in Bosnia (there are no exponent here in Bosnia, only in Croatia).
Me and my father have a wheels repare worksop here in Banjaluka so we have a lot experience with all kind of wheels and all brands. If you like you can visit our web site at www.szr-tarlac.web1000.com. There you can find a lot of informations about wheels.

First i if i mat request that u both stop the talking with this language i dont know what...
second to this rohan guy ..... if ur such a genious why dont u answer the question ...
third.... i didnt see anybody answer the question with a real serious answer....
WHY DOES ALLOY WEELS ARE BETTER !!
to the guy who asked the question ... i know the answer and i will say it ... but i hope the rohan guy would answer a stupid answer so this i would make fun of him !!!!

My opinion is BBS. Very light and very high quality. If you r looking for something a little bit more xtreme give a glimpse to Blitz

My choice is OZ....they offer best shapes and qualities...I am thinking of Cronoevolution model for my Renault Clio...maybe 15 "... 8)

Still nobody answered the Question ....
why are ALLOY better ????
if u talk about the manufactor i say BBS ....
but the reason why they are better !? i will say it tomorrow or tonight after i see what rohan would say!

First that language is Serbo-Croatian and if you like I can translate this to you but it is unnecessary. Second I wrote answer on this page http://www.szr-tarlac.web1000.com/feluge-en.htm .(it is big and I don't want to make this post hard to read).

i dont know what u wrote... couse ur site is hard to inter....bizzy or down dont know what ....
anyways .... my answer is that .....
the alloy weels are lighter so its a big advantage when racing ....
but thats not the answer... the alloy weels are more flexable.... they were made in the biginng for Rally races ... so that if u have a bump ... how can i say this ... if u inter a hole in the road or drove on a rock in high speed the alloy weel will be broken ...
i guess everybody knows that right ??
if u have regular they are much harder and less brakable ... so if u go on something big or get in a hole or something with it ... it wont brake .. and all of the presure comes to the X of the car ..thats how its called in my country dont know ur but it the thing which connects all weels together ( it looks like an X ) from that pressure the X may brake...
in rally races if it beakes u cant change it but u can change a tire .....
people who brake there alloy weels feels sad ... but for ur knowlege if u had a regular one it would have cost u much more to change the X of the car...
i hope what i said was clear ....
by the way check ur Site ( after i finished writting it still wasnt all up ! )

Yes site was bizzy or down but I don't know why and I tried now and it goes but slow.
Yes keeping car safe is also a reason to use alloy wheels and another reasons is:
- Improved acceleration and braking: By reducing the weight of the vehicle's rotational mass, alloy wheels provide more responsive acceleration and braking.
- Increased brake cooling: Alloy wheels are excellent conductors of heat and reducing risk of brake fade under demanding conditions. Additionally, alloy wheels can be designed to allow more cooling air to flow over the brakes.
- Added rigidity: The added strength of a quality alloy wheel can significantly reduce wheel/tire deflection in cornering. This is particularly critical with an automobile equipped with high performance tires where lateral forces may approach 1g.
- Reduced unsprung weight compared to steel wheels: This is one of the most critical factors affecting a vehicle's road holding ability. Unsprung weight is that portion of a vehicle that is not supported by the suspension (i.e. wheels, tires and brakes) and therefore most susceptible to road shock and cornering forces. By reducing unsprung weight, alloy wheels provide more precise steering input and improved "turning in" characteristics.
Does anybody has any experience with carbon wheels? I found it on Azev web site. http://www.azev.de/aktuelles/more_eng.php?artikel=carbon_eng&info=Carbon%20Wheel

u seem to know what ur talking about from the site...
it took me 10 minutes to inter but its kinda cool.......
any ways im sure of what i said ... in addition to what u said .. alloy weels are much better than steel ...
i never heard about them .... but i did hear about the exes or whatever they are called...
they say its the best but i dont really know them ,,,,,,
maybe u can help me out with that ??
im reading the article u attached..
if i have any comments i will say them

Thanks men for compliments. I don't know what is problem with site. I'm attempting for two days to upload some good pictures from Banjaluka race but I can't. I have a realy good pictures of great and super fast Opel Vectra ,Alfa 156 ,Audi A4 and BMW. Also I will upload some pictures about wheel fixing to see what we can do.
My opinion about carbon wheels is that they are good because they are very light but when you broke it you can only trash it, because carbon fibre isn't corrigible.

i dont really know how to fix alloy weels ...
and surely not carbon weels..... :)
but if u say so ,..... that is a minus for them !

carbon fibre is an expensive material, and so is the alloy found in alloy whheel...
does anyone know hwich works out more expensive??

dont look at me ...but i will check in free time ...
i just read some of the posts. i am a big fan of wheels. i have 18" and 20" on all my cars. i have never heard of carbon fibre wheels. i don't even think that's possible. i think alloy wheels are really for the look, i have chrome wheels, and they are really heavy, but if you want performace and look, there are couple companies who makes those wheel, they are a kind of expensive, but they are really good, 17" wheels only weights 14-18 lbs each. that's light. the guy who design it is the guy who design wheels for The Fast And The Ferious, and the company i don't really remember but if you guys are intersted i can find out for you guys.

Carbon wheel is possible just like you can see on http://www.azev.de/aktuelles/more_eng.php?artikel=carbon_eng&info=Carbon%20Wheel ! They are very light and also very strong.
New BBS wheels have onlu 8-9 Kg (I dont know in lb) and this is very good for car performance.
If you can find name of that company it will be helpfull for me. I want to excange experience with them.
It seems that people in Europe doesn't like so much cromed wheels. Well I don't like themn also because they are heavy for cleaning and very susceptible on corosive brake dust and sticky tar. Here in Banjaluka I have friend who can crome almoust everything but he also don't recommend cromed wheels.
I respect all opinions and for me all customers are right :)

i forget to say it is 18" wheel and it has only 8 or 9 Kg. I'm not sure.
It is very light. OZ also have some very light models and they are very nice.

its col the way the are light and 18" - but I dont really like the look of those anyway.
You know the price of them? im guessing they are very expensive...
marinko
Jun 18, 2003, 7:34 PM
I know price in Croatia and it is up to 4000 HRK (about 500 euro) for 18" wheel depending from model.
This is BBS wheel prices, but there is more other factories with cheaper wheels.
BBS is very good factory. High level of precision and great protective finish.
P.S. Did you know that big part of Mercedes wheels has been made here in Bosnia in Elektrobosna Jajce factory and they are very good. Only I think that they paint them in Germany but main production is here.

Alloy wheels are excellent. They make the car look better plus they are much lighter and more resistant.

i currently own a skyline gtt, which is essentially a gtr with 2 more doors and one turbo instead of two so performance is almost halved.
a friend of mine is offering to sell me a set of nismo wheels (bronze in color, condition good as new). he had imported them from Japan and is selling them for US$1,200 including tyres, which look rather new also.
currently, the wheels on my car are the factory original 17" 225's. the nismos are 17" 235 front and 255 rear. although i know handling will improve, would appreciate useful feedback on the following:
1. would the wider tyres reduce the performance? i remember reading somewhere that the increased surface area increases friction and hence affects acceleration.
2. any thing else i should consider before deciding to buy them?
thanks.

wider tyers ..means :
1. more fuel ..
2. better handling
3. lowers the acceleration speed...
but mainly you dont really feel the diffence except better handling..
at least thats what i felt when i changed mine ...

skyline is 4wd right?
and if the tire sizes are different!
you are going to have to spend a lot more money on the tires, because you can't switch the front ones with the back ones.
mallon
Jun 22, 2003, 10:10 AM
White Night you're worng there!
Wider tyres means better acceleration! - why do you think the 0 - 200mhp in 3 secs drag racers have thoas tyres?
The top speed is lower the wider the tyres - but acceleration is definetly not lowered.
White-Night
Jun 22, 2003, 10:18 AM
mallon ... you may be right....
but here is how i think ...
wider tyres mean more space on the road means more grip and more "reverse force" for the hole car .. becouse the of the big space that the tyres have on the road the car needs more force to move them becouse of the reverse force (dont know what its called in english so im explaining in simple words)
mallon
Jun 22, 2003, 10:48 AM
yeah thats why there's a lower to speed - the resultant force is less and therefore less speed.
But when accelerating there would be more friction but there would be less wheel spin, therefore more forward force. - so better acceleration.
White-Night
Jun 22, 2003, 3:36 PM
i asked some people who really know about this stuff...
and some how what you said about the weel spin is right but not always ...
they explained it all for me ...
i dont really know how to explain it but they gave me this site that tells calculates the speed compared with the tyre (and the alloy and ...) all the stuff which supposed to be connected to tyers size and accleration speed....
check it out ...
the intro is in hebrew but all the figuers and the number are in english so its not a problem to understand at all .. the only thing which is written in hebrew is that you should put the numbers ......
check it out ... its really amazing :)

Wider tires means :
1. more fuel
2. better handling
and they mean better acceleration, but problem is with older cars which don't have hydraulic steering. it is much harder to steer without servo.
It is much easer with smaller tires in winter season and it is good to have 2 tire sets (one summer and one winter)

I know much about selecting tires and wheels but it is wery usefull for my customers, and I will put this link on my web page. many peoples doesn't know how to select proper tires, and this will be usefull for them.
Thanks!!!
By the way Papa sending greetings to you from Banjaluka. Everything was wery nice and good organised.
